United Launches Its 1st Transatlantic Starlink Flight Today Onboard One Of Its Oldest Jets

Chicago-based United Airlines is set to debut onboard Starlink WiFi on its first transatlantic flightonboard N37018 , one of the carrier’s oldest widebody aircraft. The Boeing 777-200 will take off between Newark and London, with it celebrating being the first of 60 widebody planes for the airline to have Starlink installed this year.

United is aiming for the entire fleet of its widebody aircraft to be fitted with Starlink in preparation for the 2027 Northern Hemisphere summer season. United remains the largest airline with services across both the Atlantic and Pacific, and now passengers can enjoy fast and reliable internet access for those who hold a Mileage Plus account.

The first flight with fast and reliable Starlink Wifi will depart from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) this Monday, June 23, as flight UA14. The service will depart bound for London Heathrow Airport (LHR). The connectivity has been fitted to one of the airline’s oldest widebody aircraft. The 777-200 is one of 400 aircraft that have already been fitted with Starlink; this is the first of its widebody airplanes to be fitted with this connectivity.

United is aiming to roll out Starlink across many more of its widebody planes, including the 777-200 on routes between United hub airports in the United States, including Newark, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Key routes will include destinations across Europe, Asia, and South America, and many more as the service is gradually added. David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer, explains:

“United is changing what it means to stay connected on an overseas flight. Starlink offers the same fast, reliable internet access and connectivity we’re all used to at home, delivered in the air at 35,000 feet, flying anywhere around the world. This technology has the potential to transform how we think about the inflight experience for both our customers and our employees.”

As already mentioned, around 400 aircraft in the United area are already fitted with Starlink, and this flight to London marks the first time the product is available on a widebody aircraft. To access the service, passengers will need to be a Mileage Plus member and will be able to connect even over isolated areas such as the oceans and polar regions that these aircraft can fly during trans-oceanic services.

United first introduced Starlink last spring and has gradually rolled the service out across its regional or narrow-body aircraft. The relationship between the Star Alliance carrier and Starlink has built a highly efficient program that has improved the onboard experience for passengers. United’s investment in Starlink enables passengers to feel more connected than ever before. This personalized experience is not only for personal devices, but also seatback entertainment systems, which include the ability for travelers to join live games, stream gameplay, or connect to gaming platforms in real time, can seamlessly shop or travel plan, and upload or download files while in flight.

Starlink remains free for United frequent flier members, and those traveling on services that are fitted with this connectivity are notified before their flight, allowing those who are not currently signed up to the program the ability to join before their next flight. With the first widebody going live this evening, a total of 60 widebody aircraft will follow.

As United continues to excel with the most trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific operations of any of the Big Three US carriers, this will improve the onboard experience for those traveling with the airline. and can look forward to many more of its widebody fleet being fitted with the service just in time for the 2027 summer season.
