Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was a considerable disappointment, but that isn’t stopping the IP’s video game efforts in their tracks. In fact, Eternal Whispers – a new CRPG taking more than a few cues from Disco Elysium – might be the balm we need.
Just revealed by publisher Kwalee, the narrative-driven CRPG takes us to “a dark-modern Montreal consumed by political intrigue, buried secrets and personal horror.” There are no combat encounters in the traditional, video game-y sense, but you can be violent and ruthless through your actions and choices.
“You are Gabe, a vampire awakened from decades of torpor with fractured memories and a past buried deeper than the dead. Guided by Sam, a reluctant Thin-Blood, what begins as a hunt for a rogue ghoul spirals into a dangerous conspiracy tied to the Temple of Eternal Whispers, a vast underground cathedral built in devotion to a forbidden faith,” the official Steam description says.
Shockingly, no console versions have been announced at the time of writing, but considering this is Flyos’ – a renowned board game studio – first video game (at least according to its site), we’re not surprised to see the developers playing things safe first. Flyos found a lot of success with the Vampire: The Masquerade – Chapters board game, so this feels like a natural next step for the studio. Eternal Whispers is looking fine and stylish, in any case.
Looking deeper into the first details, Vampire: The Masquerade – Eternal Whispers is said to focus on “investigative gameplay focused on discovery and deduction” alongside character customisation, with a “Final Death mode” giving the more diehard players the option to face permanent consequences. More will be revealed in due time, as Kwalee hasn’t set a release window yet.
