Thank you for genuinely answering. Tbqh I thought multiyear wait times were still the norm everywhere (they were when I came out, I had to wait 4 years to even get on HRT from my initial referral), so didn’t realize it was down to a year from referral at GRS. Insane that they’re not increasing funding to compensate for the larger number of patients they’ll be getting. Everything I knew about the GRS team was just that they were kind of awful to deal with (have known people who got denied surgeries for being nonbinary, which I am) so the BC clinic has always seemed like the safer option to me, and I’m sorry for not considering that it might not be for everyone.

I’ve not heard any really negatives about GRS Montreal, other than they have a certain aesthetic that they don’t deviate from very often (so not a good fit for everyone if you want a larger labia or a different surgical technique).

They’ve done thousands of surgeries and are well known for their consistency, where as Vancouver is newer and less experienced, so I’m more wary to go to them. There’s almost no examples online of VGH’s surgical results for example. I’m sure they do a good job, but its really hard to find information online about their results and direct experiences.

I’ll still go to Vancouver if my application doesn’t work out with Montreal, but I’d rather not wait 2-5 years either.

Exceptions do exist, and people have had complications everywhere, but overall I think they’re a good option, and haven’t heard any negatives from several people in the local Trans Discord about their experiences in the past year or two there.

Thanks for apologizing.
