Steam reportedly refunds Battlefield 6 player with 470 hours logged after EA quietly pulled Rush mode from Quickplay

A Battlefield 6 player “upset” at the removal of the popular Rush mode claims to have secured a full refund from Steam despite having clocked up 470 hours.

Reddit user ExplorEverythingOnce states Valve refunded the full $109.24 (roughly £81) that they paid for the game’s Phantom Edition, despite roughly 470 hours logged – more than 230 times Steam’s usual cutoff.

Rush disappeared without warning earlier this week as part of patch 1.4.1.5, buried among a batch of otherwise minor fixes. It’s still ostensibly available via the Portal, but not via Custom Search – which is why players noticed its absence – along with other quietly removed modes – almost immediately.

“It’s the mode I have the most time in by far,” they wrote, and later added: “I’ve been a Steam customer for 22 years and have 2500 games on my account. I have only ever requested a refund once in that entire time until today.”

Rush has been a series staple since Bad Company in 2008, and losing it without so much as a patch note has gone down about as well as you’d expect, whether or not it was the most-played option at launch.

It’s this context, the Reddit user said, that swayed Steam Support. They say they explained that several modes had disappeared from matchmaking without notice nearly a year after launch, then pointed the agent to Battlefield’s own official mode list and EA’s community update confirming the removal. The agent apparently “agreed that wasn’t right”, and processed a full refund on the launch-day purchase.

Steam just fully r*funded me for Battlefield 6 after 470 hours played due to so many game modes being removed at once.

At the time of writing, Rush is still listed on EA’s website among Battlefield 6’s large-scale modes.

Whether Steam quietly extends the same treatment to other Battlefield 6 refund requests remains to be seen. For now, at least one very dedicated player has proven 470 hours isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Valve has made notable exceptions to its refund policy. It famously waived the two-hour limit en masse for Helldivers 2 players in 2024, after Sony’s PSN account requirement triggered a wave of refund requests.

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson took home a $38.7m bonus for the 2026 financial year, as the company’s games performed well, met “all milestones”, and as a new AI strategy was executed.

That bonus and many others to senior EA executives came despite layoffs across multiple studios in the same financial year.
