Massive Expansion: WestJet Launches 13 New Destinations [Full List Here]

WestJet has a busy third quarter of the year on its hands, with the Canadian carrier serving 13 destinations between July and September of this year that it did not fly to during the same period in 2025. These routes originate from four airports located across Canada: Calgary (YYC), Halifax (YHZ), Montreal (YUL), and Toronto (YYZ). Certain new destinations have WestJet flights from more than one airport.

In this article, we will dive deeper into present scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, to examine where and why WestJet has made these additions. We will also examine the aircraft and frequencies involved, as well as, in some cases, the other airlines operating these flights on behalf of WestJet. Needless to say, the Canadian carrier is spreading its wings far and wide!

Halifax’s European Boom

With the growth of narrowbody twinjet aircraft operating long-haul flights across the North Atlantic Ocean having boomed in recent years, Halifax Stanfield Airport in the northeast Canadian province of Nova Scotia has naturally emerged as a new hub. This is evidenced by three of WestJet’s new destinations that it is serving in the third quarter of this year but did not do so in the same period in 2025.

In Q3 of 2026, WestJet will operate four flights a week from Halifax to Copenhagen, four to Madrid, and five to Lisbon. Samantha Taylor, WestJet’s Group Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer, explained last year that:

“WestJet is proud to invest in Halifax. (…) With shorter flight times, competitive fares and direct access to Europe’s cultural heartlands, Halifax is uniquely positioned to serve as Canada’s Atlantic gateway.”

Toronto & Montreal

Toronto Pearson International Airport in the province of Ontario is another hub from which WestJet has looked to expand towards Europe using its Boeing 737 MAX 8 narrowbody twinjets. Its new additions on this front serve Cardiff (CWL) in Wales, Glasgow (GLA) in Scotland, and Ponta Delgada (PDL) in the Portuguese Azores. Frequency-wise, all routes see four flights a week for most of Q3.

WestJet has also made an international addition closer to home from its Toronto hub this year for Q3. Specifically, the Canadian carrier now flies from Pearson International Airport to Samana El Catey International Airport (AZS) in the Dominican Republic. Passengers flying on this route can expect weekly flights throughout the third quarter of this year, with these operated by Sunwing Airlines’ Boeing 737s

Samana will also handle WestJet flights from Montreal Trudeau Airport in the province of Quebec. Like the Toronto services, they will be operated by Sunwing’s 737s on WestJet’s behalf. Elsewhere, WestJet has also added two Mexican routes to its Montreal portfolio, once again operated by Sunwing’s 737s on account of their leisure-based nature. Their destinations are Cozumel (CZM) and Mazatlan (MZT).

Calgary Also Has Its Fair Share Of Additions

Further to the west, Calgary International Airport in the province of Alberta has also seen both domestic and international additions for Q3 this year. Domestically speaking, WestJet now flies from Calgary to North Bay (YYB) and Saulte Ste. Marie (YAM) in Ontario using various models from the Boeing 737 family. Meanwhile, it also operates WestJet Encore Dash 8 turboprops to Campbell River (YBL).

On an international level, WestJet has added two new Mexican destinations to its Calgary roster this year: Guadalajara (GDL) and Mazatlan. Both of these new routes will be served on a weekly basis in the third quarter of 2026. Guests flying to Mazatlan will find that the 737-800 operates every flight on this route, while WestJet’s Calgary-Guadalajara coverage is split between the 737-700 and 737-800.
