Lords of the Fallen 2 set to potentially release on Steam as developer CI Games and Epic terminate PC exclusivity deal

Following its announcement last summer and a look at gameplay during The Game Awards 2025, Lords of the Fallen 2 (which is actually the series’ third game if we don’t ignore the fact it was rebooted) has been steadily marching towards an unspecified 2026 launch. On PC, the plan was for it to be an Epic Games Store exclusive, but it seems like that’s no longer happening.

As revealed by Polish site Bankier, CI Games – developer and sole owner of the IP – is now free from the multi-year exclusivity deal with Epic Games. “The conclusion of the Agreement by the Company and Epic will not affect the ongoing cooperation between the parties in relation to the Unreal Engine” and other Epic services, the original filing states.

CI Games has been “released from its obligations” with a full termination that’s “conditional in nature”. The rest of all the legal talk reveals nothing more about when or why the decision was made. In any case, Lords of the Fallen 2, which is still targeting a 2026 release, can now launch on Steam as well. The console versions of the dark fantasy Soulslike remain unaffected.

The sequel has also been at the centre of heated conversations following CI Games founder and CEO Marek Tyminski’s comments regarding “political correctness” and “real player feedback”. The studio also raised eyebrows recently by announcing more revealing armour sets for female characters in Lords of the Fallen 2, for instance, compared to its previous project.

Eurogamer’s two-star review of Lords of the Fallen (reboot) called it “a perfectly acceptable Soulslike that’s often fun to play and offers the same satisfaction at overcoming adversity”. However, it was let down by “Soulslike clichés and performance woes”.
