“It’s clear that we both adore one another’s games a lot” – Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2 team up for a crossover made in heaven

At today’s Triple-i Showcase, Dave the Diver studio Mintrocket announced a surprisingly obvious, and perfectly fitting, collaboration. The game’s final DLC, set for release in early 2027, brings the worlds of Subnautica 2 and Dave the Diver together.

Although the two games share deep-sea exploration as a mechanic, they’re at opposite ends of the spectrum tonally – though they’re still a better fit than many of the other brands Dave the Diver has crossed over with. These have included Balatro, Yakuza, Godzilla, and Guilty Gear to name a few.

The upcoming Subnautica 2 DLC is free and was developed in collaboration with Subnautica 2 team Unknown Worlds. It brings Subnautica 2’s ocean moon of Proteus to Dave the Diver, and sees Dave and Bancho – having discovered all species of sea creatures and associated sushi recipes in this dimension – travel to a new dimension to uncover more.

While there, yes, they’re going to run into Subnautica 2’s iconic Leviathan, but also make new friends and hopefully return home having made a lot of new discoveries. Jaeho Hwang, Mintrocket studio director said: “Both games are set underwater, but Subnautica has such a distinct approach to underwater exploration, so working with the Subnautica 2 team gave us a chance to bring a new wave to Dave the Diver experience.”

Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos added: “It’s clear that we both adore one another’s games a lot, and the expansion is a love letter to both Dave the Diver and the Subnautica universe. People are in for a treat.”

The Subnautica 2 x Dave the Diver crossover DLC is available to wishlist on Steam now. Subnautica 2, which launched in early access this year, has been incredibly successful. It sold more than 5 million copies in under a month, convincing publisher Krafton – which was embroiled in a legal battle with studio founders before launch – to turn it into a “franchise IP”.
