How to break yellow barriers in Saros

Yellow barriers in Saros will have you stumped right from the very start of the game because, even though you can find them while exploring the first biomes, there’s no obvious way to break them. Red barriers, on the other hand, just require a melee attack to take down, and you can destroy them from the get-go.

With all those sweet items and collectibles taunting you from the other side of the yellow barriers, here’s an explainer on how to destroy them in Saros.

Technically, yellow barriers in Saros can also be broken by a standard melee attack. However, you do not unlock the power to do this until essentially the end of the game. So, if you’re trying to break the yellow barriers early on, you’ll need to ignore them for the time being and continue progressing.

You’ll unlock the ability to break yellow barriers when you reach Yellow Shore, the final biome in Saros. You’ll get there after you defeat the Priestess boss, and you’ll need to destroy a yellow barrier to progress, which is when you’ll unlock Blazing Strike. This takes place during the quest “Take What You Need,” when your objective is to “Enter the fortress.” From here, whenever you encounter a yellow barrier in subsequent runs, you can destroy them with a melee attack.

Unfortunately, this does mean that you aren’t able to break yellow barriers for a long time, and you’ll need to pretend you don’t see them along with all the goodies that they’re hiding. Instead, you’ll need to go back after you’ve reached the Yellow Shore and destroy the barriers on a subsequent playthrough.
