What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.
With his omnibus proposal to strengthen protections against — and penalties for — gender-based violence, add new measures to boost child safety and address issues stemming from court delays now on track to make its Upper House debut on Monday afternoon, Justice Minister Sean Fraser heads to LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS, where senators have already launched a preliminary review of the bill. (9:30 a.m.)
Back on the Commons side, HUMAN RESOURCES, SKILLS AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT members continue to examine “homelessness in Canada” with representatives from the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, Oxford House Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan West Business Association and Auberge sous mon toit. (3:30 p.m.)
Over at ACCESS TO INFORMATION, PRIVACY AND ETHICS, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs vice-president Dylan Hanley weighs in on the current federal lobbying regime as the committee continues its statutory review of the law. (3:30 p.m.)
Members of the SUBCOMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS get an update on human rights in Cuba and the Caribbean region. (3:30 p.m.)
Earlier in the day, CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION members hear from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Information and Communications Technology Council and the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry as they take a closer look at ongoing efforts aimed at “attracting and empowering global talent” to Canada. (11 a.m.)
Rounding out the roster, JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS members go through the fine print of Liberal MP Vivian Lapointe’s backbench proposal to give courts the power to issue restitution orders to front-line and community organizations with representatives from the Go-Give Project and Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking. (11 a.m.)
