Attracting ‘global talent’ to Canada, tightening parole eligibility and Canada – European Union relations in the spotlight

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

Representatives of Building Trades of Alberta, Council of Canadian Innovators and the World University Service of Canada, as well as officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, offer their suggestions on “attracting and empowering global talent” to Canada during a roundtable discussion with CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION members. (4:30 p.m.)

Victims advocate Jo-Anne Landolt and Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime Benjamin Roebuck are set to share their perspectives on Conservative MP Jeff Kibble’s backbench proposal to extend the minimum time served before someone convicted of the abduction, rape and murder of the same victim is eligible for parole as JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS members prepare to wrap up their lightning-round review of the bill. (4:30 p.m.)

Also this afternoon: VETERANS AFFAIRS members continue to explore the “experience of Black veterans” before shifting back to their ongoing “monitoring” of the rehabilitation services contract awarded to PCVRS. (4:30 p.m.)

On the Senate side: Canada’s former ambassador to the European Union — and erstwhile Liberal leader — Stéphane Dion is among the invited witnesses as FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE members take a closer look at Canada – E.U. relations. (4:15 p.m.)
