TPG’s newsletter team recently visited San Juan, Puerto Rico, for our annual in-person meetup. As we planned our visit, we were excited to eat Puerto Rican food, feel the sand between our toes and sample pina coladas in the city that first created the sweet cocktail.
We were just as excited for our hotel stay at La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection, where we enjoyed gorgeous ocean views, mouthwatering meals and spacious, comfortable accommodations that made it hard to leave beautiful San Juan.
Here’s what you can expect for your own visit to La Concha Resort.
What it’s like at La Concha Resort
La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico has long been a San Juan mainstay thanks to its oceanfront location in the popular Condado neighborhood, modern architecture, delicious dining and lobby that doubles as a nighttime hot spot.

Thanks to a major renovation completed in 2025 (to the tune of $80.2 million), the hotel now also features 238 redesigned rooms and suites in its reimagined Suite Tower, plus new dining concepts and a full-service spa. These additions round out the hotel’s other offerings, including three pools — one more lively, the other two quiet and secluded — a fitness center with complimentary classes, a casino and beach access with complimentary chairs and umbrellas.

This high-energy property is ideal for travelers seeking the excitement of San Juan in a beachfront setting with ample opportunity for sun and relaxation.

Rooms at La Concha Resort
La Concha Resort has a wide variety of room types, ranging from 396-square-foot guest rooms with resort views to a 1,085-square-foot presidential suite with an ocean view, a balcony and a six-person whirlpool.
During our visit, most of our group stayed in 570-square-foot deluxe suites in the Suite Tower. These suites were recently remodeled; each includes a sofa bed and either a king bed or two double beds.

When you walk into a deluxe suite in the Suite Tower, you’ll see the living room with enough sofa seating for a large group or family.

Some, but not all, of the deluxe suites in the Suite Tower have a kitchenette just off the living room. Suites with a kitchenette include seating areas, two-burner stove tops, pots and pans, utensils and minifridges.

From the living room, you’ll find closets and the bathroom along a hallway toward the bedroom.
At the end of the hallway is the bedroom. We all enjoyed the comfortable bedding and found the bedroom well lit by natural light during the day.

Some deluxe suites offer city views, while others provide partial or full oceanfront views. Either way, most deluxe suites have balconies with chairs. Multiple people in our group enjoyed sitting on their balcony with a coffee each morning.

Dining at La Concha Resort
From a morning coffee or matcha latte to Mediterranean-inspired fine dining, La Concha Resort has an impressive variety of bars and restaurants (nine, to be exact).
Our caffeine-addicted group paid many visits to Aroma Cafe in the lobby for coffee, matcha, smoothies, snacks and fresh juices. Most coffee beverages cost about $8, while smoothies and cold-pressed juices were around $10.

Levant by Chef Michael White is the hotel’s flagship restaurant, serving Mediterranean-inspired dishes from its acclaimed namesake. The oceanfront restaurant is housed within the hotel’s iconic shell-shaped structure, providing diners with views as delectable as the food.

Standout dishes included the fagottini pasta with mushrooms, spinach and Parmigiano-Reggiano ($38), the ribeye steak ($72) and the cod with beans, Swiss chard and soppressata ($40). We also sampled almost all the mezzo dips ($29 each), which were all fresh and well plated. Our favorites included the hummus, the baba ghanoush and the tirokafteri with feta, honey, figs, lime and chilis.
Other dining options include Marena, an adults-only, beachfront restaurant; Italian-influenced Serafina Restaurant; the poolside Sereno Beach Bar & Grill; Solera, where you can get a light lunch during the day and tapas in the evening; Tekka Bar, a sushi spot in the lobby; and AQA Oceanfront for international fare.

Tips for visiting San Juan
I (Fianeli) grew up in Puerto Rico and was thrilled to host my colleagues who were visiting the island for the first time. The recommendations below reflect the exact places I take friends when I want them to experience San Juan beyond the surface, and I made sure my TPG colleagues got the same treatment.

Here are a few spots you won’t want to miss:
- The blue cobblestone streets, the pastel colonial architecture and Castillo San Felipe del Morro overlooking the Atlantic are not manufactured attractions; they are foundational pieces of the island’s history. Tour El Morro and Castillo San Cristobal with enough time to take in the scale of the ocean views rather than rushing through them.
- Whether you choose Barrachina, which claims to have invented the pina colada, or Caribe Hilton, which makes the same claim, the debate is part of the fun of enjoying a real San Juan pina colada. At this point, it’s less about which venue did it first and more about participating in a ritual that has become inseparable from the island’s tourism history.
- For a modern take on Puerto Rican cuisine, head to Cocina al Fondo in Santurce, which specializes in dishes that emphasize fresh seafood, locally sourced meats and thoughtful plant-based options in a charming house-style setting with a dim-lit, breezy patio. Casita Miramar offers Puerto Rican fusion fare in an intimate Spanish-inspired space (and is currently available to book via Resy if you want to apply one of the up to $50 biannual statement credits for U.S. Resy purchases available with the American Express® Gold Card). The Resy benefit with the Amex Gold is worth up to $100 in statement credits per calendar year; enrollment is required.
- Condado Beach is beautiful and convenient for guests staying at La Concha, but the currents can be strong, making it better suited for confident swimmers or those primarily looking to relax on the sand. Escambron Beach, a short drive away, offers calmer waters and is often preferred by visitors planning to swim.

Accessibility
La Concha Resort has several accessible room types, including in the newly redesigned Suite Tower. These rooms have mobility-accessible features like roll-in showers or accessible tubs, accessible vanities, bathroom grab rails and lowered electrical outlets, deadbolts and door handles.
Public areas of the hotel, including the lobby, the pools, the meeting spaces, the restaurants and the parking areas, are also accessible.
Bottom line
It’s pretty clear that our team loved our stay at La Concha Resort. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and opened right up to beautiful beach views. Not to mention, the location made exploring San Juan convenient, and the resort’s amenities kept us refreshed during our downtime.
While we were lucky to have this beautiful resort as our home base for a work trip, we’d all gladly come back for a personal vacation.
