500 Frequencies: The 7 Routes The Airbus A350-1000 Is Deployed On The Most In 2026

The Airbus A350-1000 is not a very common aircraft, as there are just over 100 in service today and only 367 have been ordered in total. However, it’s also a tremendously important aircraft, as it’s positioned to be the direct replacement for the ubiquitous Boeing 777-300ER. The 777-9 also exists as a potential replacement, but it’s closer in size to a 747 than a 777-300ER.

The A350-1000 has more range than any other airliner in production, but what’s truly remarkable about the aircraft is that it’s efficient even on shorter transatlantic journeys. As such, it’s a very versatile plane, able to operate a wide variety of missions. Using data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, let’s examine the seven routes with the most A350-1000 frequencies.

Pointe-à-Pitre To Paris Orly

499 frequencies

Based in Guadeloupe, Air Caraïbes operates some of the world’s densest widebodies. It’s owned by the same company as French bee, and it operates a fleet of Airbus A330-300s, A350-900s, A350-1000s, as well as ATR 72-600s for regional flights. The A350-1000s feature either 429 seats or 480 seats, right up to the aircraft’s exit limit, and notably feature a ten-abreast layout in economy.

Paris Orly Airport is the carrier’s main hub for long-haul flights, as it serves Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Cayenne, Point-à-Pitre, Martinique, and Cancun. The A350-1000s are flown to Point-à-Pitre and Martinique, with the former seeing 499 frequencies in each direction. Per day, Air Caraïbes schedules up to two A350-1000s per day to Point-à-Pitre, one of its main hubs.

The economy seats are only 16.7 inches (42.4 centimeters) wide, making them among the narrowest airline seats in the world. Two of its A350-1000s feature 45 recliner seats for premium economy and 24 Stelia Equinox 3D lie-flat seats for business class, configured six-abreast. Its other two A350-1000s only have 40 premium economy seats, 440 economy seats, and no business class cabin.

Qatar Airways is the world’s largest customer for the A350-1000, having ordered 42 examples, of which 29 have already been delivered. These planes are deployed all around the world, and Qatar Airways has scheduled 500 frequencies to use the A350-1000 from its hub in Doha to São Paulo. Per day, the carrier deploys between one and two A350-1000s on this route.

Unlike Air Caraïbes’ dense A350-1000s, all of Qatar Airways’ A350-1000s feature its exceptional QSuites business class with sliding doors, which remains one of the world’s best premium products. Some of the carrier’s A350-1000s feature a layout with 24 QSuites and 371 economy seats, but most are configured with 46 QSuites and 281 economy seats.

This route is 6,403 NM (11,858 km), making it one of the longer routes in the world (but not quite pushing the boundaries). Qatar Airways also deploys the Boeing 777-200LR on this route, but the A350-1000 offers significantly more floor space while also carrying more payload. Naturally, the A350-1000 is also much more fuel efficient compared to the 777-200LR.

London Heathrow To Delhi

519 frequencies

Both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic operate the A350-1000, but British Airways uses the A350-1000 mainly to provide high capacity with smaller premium cabins (compared to the airline’s other aircraft types). In comparison, the A350-1000 is Virgin Atlantic’s flagship aircraft, offering more seats as well as more premium seats than any other aircraft in the carrier’s fleet.

Between London Heathrow and Delhi, Virgin Atlantic has scheduled 519 frequencies to use the A350-1000 each way, or between one and two A350-1000s per day. The carrier also operates the Boeing 787-9 between the two cities, and it flies a total of two daily flights. The market is competitive, with British Airways, Air India, and IndiGo also operating this route, but Virgin Atlantic still has a large presence.

Virgin Atlantic operates 12 A350-1000s in total, seven of which have 44 Upper Class seats, 56 premium economy seats, and 235 economy seats, while the remaining five have 16 Upper Class seats, 56 premium economy seats, and 325 economy seats. The high-density A350-1000s are primarily used to serve leisure destinations, while the standard A350-1000s operate flagship routes like London to Delhi.

Starlux Airbus A350-1000 Parked On Display

Starlux Airlines is a fairly new airline, having commenced operations in January 2020. With Starlux’s debut, Taiwan has become one of the most competitive markets in the entire world. Three excellent full-service carriers are operating out of Taipei, and Starlux keeps growing as it has recently taken delivery of its first two A350-1000s.

Currently, the A350-1000s are flying to Phoenix, as well as to Osaka and Tokyo Narita. Of these three, the Tokyo Narita route sees the most flights with this aircraft, as Starlux has scheduled 571 flights to use the A350-1000 each way between Taipei and Tokyo Narita. Once again, this amounts to between one and two daily flights with the A350-1000.

Starlux Airlines has installed 350 seats, including four first class suites, 40 business class suites, 36 premium economy seats, and 270 economy seats. The first class seats are essentially front-row business class plus versions of the Collins Aerospace Elements seat used for business class, but with differentiated service. Apart from the added space and higher suite walls, the two seats are largely identical.

Hong Kong To Toronto

Cathay Pacific extensively deploys its A350-1000 fleet on some of its longest missions to North America, with Toronto being its busiest A350-1000 operation. It’s scheduled 648 frequencies to use the A350-1000 each way in 2026, and the route is 6,787 NM (12,569 km), making it one of the longest nonstop services to North America, as well as the longest route on this list.

Within Cathay Pacific’s fleet, the A350-1000 is essentially its high-capacity aircraft for long-haul operations, while the Boeing 777-300ER is generally the premium flagship. Although the two planes are similarly sized, Cathay Pacific installs a first class cabin on ten of its 777-300ERs, along with a larger business class cabin. Meanwhile, its three-class 777-300ERs have more economy seats, largely due to the plane having 10 seats per row in economy.

Cathay Pacific installs 46 business class seats, 32 premium economy seats, and 256 economy seats on the A350-1000. In business class, they feature the Safran Cirrus III, an updated version of the Cirrus seat that’s found across nearly all of Cathay Pacific’s long-haul widebodies. However, the airline has not announced plans to install the latest ‘Aria Suites’ on the A350s as they’re still fairly young.

The A350-1000 is the new flagship of Japan Airlines’ fleet. The first example entered service in January 2024, and JAL now operates 11 examples, alongside its fleet of 17 A350-900s. The A350-1000s operate JAL’s longest and highest-demand routes, with the New York JFK service offering two daily flights.

With the A350-1000, JAL introduced new seats in all cabins, including six first class suites built by Safran (configured three-abreast), 54 business class suites based on the Safran Unity, 24 premium economy seats, and 155 economy seats. With just 239 seats, it’s currently the least-dense A350-1000 configuration in the world, although Qantas’s incoming A350-1000ULRs will have 238 seats.

While some airlines have preferred to go larger, JAL has designated the A350-1000 to replace its 777-300ER fleet. The A350-1000s seat five fewer passengers than the carrier’s 777-300ERs, but JAL is installing larger first class suites with one fewer seat per row, more business class seats, fewer premium economy seats, and more economy capacity.

London Heathrow To New York-JFK

843 frequencies

New York and London are the world’s two largest business hubs, and the route between the two cities is the world’s tenth-busiest international route. There are five airlines connecting New York JFK to London Heathrow, with United also serving London Heathrow from Newark and Norse Atlantic serving New York JFK from London Gatwick Airport. Virgin Atlantic, together with its metal-neutral joint venture partner Delta Air Lines, is a major player in this market.

Due to the high demand and limited slots, Virgin Atlantic operates up to four of its A350-1000s per day, depending on the season. While they’re huge, they also feature the largest premium cabins of any aircraft in the carrier’s fleet, and this is a route that makes its money primarily from business travelers, making the A350-1000 the natural option.

In the future, Virgin Atlantic will be taking delivery of new Airbus A330-900s with 48 Upper Class seats, while also reconfiguring Boeing 787-9s with 44 Upper Class seats. These planes will likely be heavily deployed on the JFK route, and the A350-1000 may be less prominent on this route afterwards. For now, however, this route sees more daily A350-1000s than any other in the world.
