Zelda Direct: Every Big Ocarina of Time Reveal and Trailer from Nintendo

Nintendo hosted a 30-minute-long Zelda Direct honoring The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary. It’s the first of two Nintendo Directs this week, and while the Ocarina of Time remake had plenty of time in the spotlight, there were a few other announcements as well. Nothing software-related, but if you’re in the market for some new amiibo, a Lego set, or a Zelda-themed Switch 2, Nintendo has good news for you.

Below, we’ve rounded up all the major Zelda Direct announcements and reveals.

The Legend of Zelda movie is called The Legend of Zelda

Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto said you’ll understand why the film has no subtitle after you see it. Miyamoto teased homages to the series and a big role for the Triforce, the latter of which is hardly surprising since it’s a series cornerstone. You can catch the film in theaters on April 30, 2027, and Miyamoto said future updates about the film will be shared via Nintendo Today.

Miyamoto promised plenty of collaborations and celebrations for the series’ anniversary. These include:

  • A Zelda-themed makeover at the Nintendo museum in Kyoto
  • The launch of the Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 2 on Nov. 5
  • A Link and Epona Lego set
  • A Construct amiibo
  • Zelda, Ganondorf, and Link action figures

A first look at the Ocarina of Time remake gameplay on Switch 2

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma showed off a look at the Ocarina of Time remake, specifically the early Kokiri Forest, and the release date. It’s out on Nov. 5.

Aonuma gave a brief explanation of why the graphics look the way they do. Aonuma also teased a few new features, including minor-but-impossible-for-the-Nintendo64 changes like adding a jump button, letting you rotate the camera, and, a rather more interesting one, the ability to swim and dive without special clothing.

Aonuma took Link into the Great Deku Tree, Ocarina‘s first dungeon, and used it as an explainer for how classic Zelda differs from more recent games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Then we saw Hyrule Field and a new feature, Threads of Time, which tells you where to go next if you need a hint, without showing you directly in the game. And then it was time for a trip into Hyrule Castle Town for a look at a few little differences and the day/night cycle.

And you can hum into the Switch 2 microphone or use the Ocarina of Time peripheral to play ocarina songs.

Zelda Notes finally has another use

Zelda Notes, a feature that previously only worked in limited ways for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It’ll work with the Ocarina of Time remake in several ways, including “gossip quests” where you track down in-game locations using screenshots from Zelda Notes as a guide.

The rumored Zelda-themed Switch 2 is real

Nintendo closed out this part of the presentation by revealing a Zelda-themed Switch 2, with green Joy-Con 2 sporting a Triforce pattern and a black dock with a gold Triforce. There’s also a Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro Controller and carrying case. All these are out on Oct. 29.

And there’s a new Ocarina of Time remake trailer

Nintendo ended the presentation with a new trailer highlighting Ocarina of Time‘s supporting cast, adult Link, a bunch of locations, and more.
