American Airlines AAdvantage miles offer excellent value, particularly for lie-flat business-class seats and the occasional first-class flight. With the welcome bonus on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard® (see rates and fees), you have enough miles to chase some genuinely premium redemptions.

Right now, there’s a limited-time, best-ever bonus: Earn 125,000 bonus miles after spending $15,000 on purchases in the first five months from account opening. Based on TPG’s September 2026 valuations, this bonus alone is worth $1,813.

But here’s a sweetener: Combine that 125,000-mile bonus with the miles you’ll earn on the $15,000 minimum spending requirement (at least 1 mile per dollar), and you’re looking at a minimum of 140,000 AAdvantage miles to redeem.

The AAdvantage program has both a fixed award chart for most partners and dynamic pricing (which can fluctuate based on demand) for American Airlines and Fiji Airways flights. In this guide, I focus primarily on fixed-price redemptions with partner airlines, as they offer predictable value (though you’ll also find some American Airlines and Fiji Airways options).

I’ve used over a million AAdvantage miles to fly to places like Brazil, Hong Kong and Jordan, so here are my top seven picks for redemptions that deliver real value.

Business class to Europe

Transatlantic business class is one of the most prized redemptions for those with points and miles. You have solid options for American’s own Flagship cabin and on partner carriers, each with distinct advantages.

American Airlines

I flew American’s newest business-class seat between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) last summer, and while I don’t think it’s a world-leading product, it’s definitely a step above the older seat. The sliding privacy door is ideal for sleeping on the red-eye flight to Europe.

This redemption is priced dynamically. The cheapest I found from ORD to LHR over the next year was 73,500 miles (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees), with a more common price of 97,000 to 100,000 miles.

Finnair and Iberia

The carrier’s Airbus A350 business-class cabin is comfortable, with excellent food and friendly service.

Both Finnair and Iberia offer fixed-price redemptions at 57,500 miles one-way (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees), and you can connect throughout Europe on the same award without burning extra Avios (just pay the applicable taxes).

I’m based in Madrid (Iberia’s hub) and can confirm it offers strong availability and solid access across the U.S.

Avoid British Airways

Here’s where British Airways stands apart from American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia: It adds fuel surcharges onto award redemptions. An ORD-to-LHR flight on American costs $5.60. Fly the same route on British Airways, and you’re looking at $734. That’s a huge gap.

Qsuite to the Middle East and beyond

I’ve flown Qatar Airways’ Qsuite several times, and I’m flying it again at the end of the year to Australia to visit family. This product set the gold standard for business-class design. If traveling with a companion, you can convert two adjacent suites into a double bed.

You can fly from most major U.S. airports to Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) for 70,000 miles (plus $15 in taxes and fees). Connections to the Middle East, Egypt, India or the Maldives cost no additional miles (just taxes), and onward flights to Africa add 5,000 miles. Award availability for these flights can be tight, so use a tool like Thrifty Traveler or Seats.aero for alerts.

Qatar Airways delivers excellent service and food, with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi on most long-haul flights. Flights from U.S. airports to DOH take 13 to 17 hours, so you can make that time genuinely productive.

First class to Asia

Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines are both high-quality Oneworld partners that offer access to first-class travel across the Pacific. AAdvantage gives you access to two distinct products, each with its own appeal.

Fly to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) on Japan Airlines for 80,000 miles one-way (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees) in its latest Airbus A350 first class, which operates from DFW, JFK and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The airline excels in food and service and features embedded seat speakers for a more immersive experience. This is one of the next redemptions I’m eyeing.

Or, you can fly Cathay Pacific first class one-way to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) for 110,000 miles (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees), with business-class connections throughout Asia included (taxes only).

The onboard product feels dated, but you’ll get excellent food and access to the newly renovated The Wing, First lounge at HKG, which features private shower suites, fine dining and spa services.

Business class to the South Pacific

Australia and New Zealand are far away, so premium cabins make sense.

Qantas to Australia and New Zealand

Flying Qantas, Australia’s flag carrier, Down Under costs 80,000 miles one-way in business class (plus $28 in taxes and fees). The airline flies from several U.S. airports to Australia’s Sydney Airport (SYD), Melbourne Airport (MEL) and Brisbane Airport (BNE) and also operates from JFK to Auckland Airport (AKL) in New Zealand.

I’ll be honest: In my experience, it’s an average product in terms of customer service, food and the seat itself. But beggars can’t be choosers when flying premium cabins across the Pacific.

Business-class awards on transpacific flights are among the most coveted redemptions available, so book either 11 months before departure (when the AAdvantage calendar opens) or within a month before departure (when remaining seats are released).

Fiji Airways

Fiji Airways has dynamic pricing starting at 80,000 miles one-way (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees) to Fiji’s Nadi International Airport (NAN).

The airline operates from DFW, LAX and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Fiji has become an increasingly popular stop on longer South Pacific itineraries. Fiji Airways is known for its warm service and child-friendly environment.

Business class to Morocco

Royal Air Maroc has reliable award availability for lie-flat business-class seats from JFK, LAX, MIA and Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington, D.C., to Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) in Casablanca, Morocco. The product isn’t luxurious, but it offers good value at 57,500 miles (plus $5.60 in taxes and fees).

You can connect onward through Morocco for no additional miles (taxes only) or catch the high-speed rail to Marrakech in about three hours. More broadly, the airline operates extensive service across Southern and Western Europe, so Casablanca serves as a good connecting hub even if Morocco isn’t your destination.

Short-haul domestic flights in economy

Not every trip calls for premium cabins. Cash fares for domestic flights have increased significantly, so redeeming AAdvantage miles and paying as little as $5.60 in taxes and fees can offer good value.

Short-haul economy flights, such as those from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to DFW, start at just 5,000 miles. Use economy awards strategically on routes where other airlines don’t compete effectively.

Select flights from airports outside the US

The best miles value sometimes comes from redemptions booked outside the U.S., especially if you’re already traveling internationally and can position yourself at the right hub.

• Australia to Southeast Asia: I’m flying from SYD to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in the Philippines in January, with the eight-hour Qantas business-class flight costing me only 40,000 miles (plus $80 in taxes and fees).
• Etihad Airways first class between Europe and the Middle East: I’ve flown this product once before, and you can take a shower in the sky. A sweet spot is flying from its hub at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) or LHR for 62,500 miles (plus $37 in taxes and fees). If you can find award availability, it’s one of the most aspirational redemptions in the world.
• Gol Airlines within South America: Using cash for domestic flights within Brazil can be expensive. But you can redeem AAdvantage miles on Gol Airlines flights within Brazil (except Manaus) for 7,000 miles one-way (plus $7 in taxes and fees) and from Brazil to Argentina for 10,000 miles (plus $13 in taxes and fees). It’s one of the region’s best-value redemption options.

Bottom line

The 125,000-mile welcome bonus on the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard is substantial, although the $15,000 spending requirement won’t make sense for everyone. If you can meet it without spending more than you normally would, you’ll end up with at least 140,000 AAdvantage miles.

That’s enough for two one-way business-class awards to Europe, a round-trip Qsuite itinerary to the Maldives or a one-way first-class flight to Asia (assuming you can find availability). For me, AAdvantage miles remain most valuable for these fixed-price partner awards, particularly when the taxes and fees are low (as is the case for all of the recommendations in this guide).
