YouTuber who showcases “adult-oriented” Resident Evil Requiem and Stellar Blade mods claims Capcom’s laywers asked him to take down over 1,000 videos

A YouTuber who showcases mods which stick characters from games like Resident Evil Requiem and Stellar Blade into skimpier costumes claims Capcom’s legal team have sent him an email asking him to to pull over 1000 videos featuring “adult-oriented” mods for the publisher’s games offline.

As spotted by Kotaku, in a recent stream YouTuber GrizzoUK showed off an alleged email from Capcom’s legal department. “It has come to our attention that these assets have been used to produce adult-orientated MODs, and that related videos have been created and published on YouTube,” the email read, having kicked off by pointing out that Capcom own the rights to the likes of Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

Continuing that using the assets in that way “is not authorised and is inconsistent with our terms of service, as well as relevant copyright and intellectual property laws”, the email requested an attached list of 1,004 videos were zapped from YouTube by April 21st, or further action would be taken.

I’ve reached out to Capcom for comment.

GrizzoUK said they’ve complied with the request and taken down the videos, as well as sending a reply to the email asking why their channel was being targeted specifically and highlighting a number of other YouTubers who make similar videos. “I’ve got to figure out what I’ve got to do with my channel,” the YouTuber said during their stream. “So obviously I can’t do costume mods no more, but I’m sure I can do weapon mods, because I’ve seen many weapon mods be done and they’ve not been removed. So, this seems probably to be the beginning of the end for costume mods, I guess.”

Capcom have previously outlined that they aren’t the biggest fans of mods. “There are a number of mods that are offensive to public order and morals,” a 2023 presentation on anti-cheat and anti-piracy measures from the publisher’s R&D department claimed. “When these are disseminated, the image of the product is tarnished and branding is affected. Also, these offensive mods may be mistaken for legitimate implementations and cause reputational damage.”

It remains to be seen whether this is a harbinger of bad times ahead for those making Resi Requiem mods which stick Leon in a bikini.
