Xolo Maridueña to Reprise Blue Beetle for ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Xolo Maridueña will be Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle in ‘Man of Tomorrow’.
It’ll be his first time playing the role since 2023’s eponymous Beetle movie.
James Gunn is writing and directing the ‘Superman’ follow-up.

If you were losing hope of seeing ‘Blue Beetle’ star Xolo Maridueña reprising his role as Jaime Reyes, the young man bonded to an alien scarab that gives him a variety of abilities, then prepare to be happy.

Maridueña will return as Reyes for James Gunn’s ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ the follow-up to last year’s successful ‘Superman.’

Release Date: Jul 9, 2027

Budget: $330,000,000

It’s perhaps not the most shocking move as Gunn has previously said that Reyes technically represented the first character for his rebooted DCU, but given the relatively lower box office for his 2023 origin movie, there was no guarantee he’ll be back.

And while it seems unlikely in a film with so many characters already to juggle, we’re hopeful we’ll get to see more from Jaime’s family, which included George Lopez as his wise-cracking uncle Rudy.

What’s the story for ‘Man of Tomorrow’?

Here’s what Gunn said about the new movie:

“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I Just love the script so much.”

With much of the ‘Superman’ cast returning, we’ll also meet Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, as the movie’s big threat.

When will ‘Man of Tomorrow’ be on screens?

Warner Bros. has dated the movie, which is currently in production, for July 9, 2027.
