  • ‘Toy Story 5’ opened to big business at the box office.
  • ‘The Death of Robin Hood’ made do with eighth place.
  • ‘Obsession’ continued to impress.

It would appear Pixar still has a friend in Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the ‘Toy Story’ gang.

Featuring both Juneteenth and Father’s Day, this weekend at the box office saw the franchise stalwart come roaring back into relevancy on the charts as ‘Toy Story 5’ launched to a franchise high of $160 million.

That ranks as the biggest opening of the year to date, besting previous champ ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ and Pixar’s second-best launch ever, after ‘Incredibles 2’ in 2018.

Release Date: Jun 19, 2026

Run Time: 1 hr 42 min

Budget: $275,000,000

Globally, the new Pixar outing earned an impressive $312 million, though studio eyes will be on how much it takes in going forward given its hefty $250 million production cost (before any marketing costs are factored in). And there is competition on the way, not least Illumination’s ‘Minions & Monsters,’ due on July 1.

Steven Spielberg’s latest, ‘Disclosure Day’ took a 62% drop to second place and $17 million, while Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’ continued to do solid business, adding $14.2 million for the weekend, bringing its global total to $333 million, a massive profit considering it cost less than $1 million to produce (not factoring in marketing).

New horror release ‘Leviticus’ didn’t quite scale the heights of ‘Obsession’ or ‘Backrooms,’ but it still managed to open in eighth with $3 million.

There was less good news for writer/director Michael Sarnoski’s ‘The Death of Robin Hood,’ which stars Hugh Jackman. It landed with a thud in ninth place, and stands to make $2.5 million this weekend.
