UFC Fighter Booted Off American Airlines Flight, Charters Private Jet Instead

Armenian UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan was involved in an incident on Thursday, which resulted in the fighter, along with three of his friends, getting offloaded from an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. This reportedly occurred after Tsarukyan and his friends failed to follow crew instructions and were found to be standing up on the aisle and taking phone calls when the aircraft was taxiing.

While the four passengers were offloaded from the aircraft, it did not stop Tsarukyan and his friends from flying to Philadelphia, as the group, later that evening, chartered a private jet for the journey.

What should have been a regular transcontinental flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) turned out to be disruptive earlier this week for professional fighter Arman Tsarukyan and three of his friends. MSN News reports that Tsarukyan and his entourage were traveling to Philadelphia for an upcoming fight on Thursday, April 16, when this incident occurred.

American Airlines is the only carrier operating flights on this route, and it was on their service, AA-513 this situation unfolded. Reports indicate that Tsarukyan and the three other members involved failed to adhere to crew instructions, in terms of not standing in the aisle or answering phone calls, while the aircraft was taxiing. Data from FlightRadar24 shows that the Airbus A321neo pushed back from the gate and started taxiing, shortly after which the aircraft performed a U-turn, and returned to another gate at Terminal-4.

After that, the aircraft pushed back for a second time and continued its journey to PHL without further incidents. Despite the delay in departure, the aircraft arrived at the destination with only 37 minutes of delay (speed on the Easterly flight possibly aided by jet-streams). Simple Flying has reached out to American Airlines for comments regarding this incident.

“Kicked off commercial, I guess Private it is”

Considering the fighter had to get to Philadelphia for an upcoming match, as per Tsarukyan’s social media, he and his three friends then boarded a private jet later that evening and flew to Philadelphia. On his Instagram reel, captioned, “Kicked off commercial, I guess Private it is”, he can be seen walking up to a private jet saying, “I hope they are not gonna kick me out from this plane.”

So what do we know about the jet he chartered? As with most cases, customers who generally charter jets do not usually wish to broadcast details of their flight or information about their aircraft for several reasons, including privacy. It is highly possible that the flight was not from LAX to PHL, because the advantage of using charter jets is that customers can avoid the crowd and public eye of larger international airports and instead utilize exclusive airfields and FBOs for privacy, luxury, and saving time.

That being said, certain deductions can be made from the fighter’s social media post. The clearly visible oval windows, seen from outside the jet and inside, are a signature feature of Gulfstream aircraft. The post shows there is a flight attendant welcoming the team onboard, with a galley area in the front of the jet, a total of eight seats, a bed located in the middle of the cabin, and a separate lavatory at the rear of the cabin. Considering these details along with the length/distance for the flight, it could possibly be a midsize or super-midsize Gulfstream jet that was chartered for this flight.

Press Statement Made By Tsarukyan

Upon reaching Philadelphia, reports from MMA Fighting indicate that Tsarukyan, at the RAF-8 pre-fight press conference recounted his side of the story. The fighter’s side of the story was that he wished to move to one of the empty seats onboard the aircraft rather than the seat he was originally allocated, but the crew member asked him to return to his original seat.

As per the reported statements, Tsarukyan did not dispute with the crew member, but still chose to sit at one of the empty seats, rather than his allocated seats. While taxiing, it was reported that two of his friends received phone calls, which they answered, while another friend did not have his tray table folded up. In the end, the aircraft returned to the gate, where Tsarukyan and these three passengers traveling with him were offloaded from the aircraft.

The report also states that the fighter’s entourage included seven other members, who remained on the American Airlines commercial flight. However, at the press-conference, Tsarukyan stated that his friends who ended up remaining on the flight, expressed interest that they would have gladly left the aircraft, had they known a private jet would be chartered.
