When a judge is charged with rape, Arthur Kirkland (Pacino) is forced to defend him. Kirkland has had problems with the judge in the past, including one incident when the judge wrongly sentenced his client Jeff McCullaugh because of a technicality. Kirkland faces a moral and legal dilemma.

The film was a box office success, grossing $33.3 million in North America on a $4 million budget, and landed two Oscar nominations, for Lead Actor (Pacino) and Original Screenplay (Valerie Curtin and Barry Levinson).

It’s also known for one of the most memorable lines in movie history when Pacino’s Kirkland shouts in court after the judge had declared his outburst to be out of order: “You’re out of order! You’re out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They are out of order!”

As for the show’s synopsis? It’s described as a gritty look at an idealistic attorney’s flawed life as he struggles to fight a corrupted legal system until he finally snaps.
