MILAN — Exclusive collaborations between hotels and design firms are on the rise.

On Monday, The Mark Hotel told WWD that it has partnered with Italian design house Alessi on an exclusive capsule collection celebrating craftsmanship, functionality and elevated hospitality. The centerpiece is a limited-edition Alessandro M. Corkscrew, awash in The Mark’s signature black-and-white stripes and available exclusively through Le Shop at The Mark.

The collection also includes bespoke entertaining pieces exclusive to hotel guests, including Dutch designer Marcel Wanders’ picnic basket designed for Alessi in 2020. The picnic set is composed of a wicker picnic basket, dining plates, soup bowls, utensils and four glasses in thermoplastic resin. It also includes a sculptural tray by Nika Zupanc and an hors d’oeuvre set by Israeli designer Ron Arad. Each piece is engraved with The Mark’s signature “M.”

The Alessi classic Alessandro M. Corkscrew remains one of its most recognizable designs by Alessandro Mendini who passed away in 2019. His vision has been integral to Alessi’s international resonance, culminating in evergreens like the Moka Alessi, a coffee pot, and the Asta utensil set.

Available Monday exclusively through Le Shop at The Mark, the corkscrew is priced at $120.

Design and hospitality collaborations are on the rise as consumers and travelers seek exclusive experiences and stays. Fellow Italian firm Ginori 1735 developed The Café Ginori offering an exclusive dining experience and a chance to purchase the firm’s porcelain designs. The Café Ginori operated through partnerships with St. Regis for its Florence location as well as in Abu Dhabi, and is open at the Hotel de la Ville with Rocco Forte group in Rome and Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.

Earlier in September, Lacoste said it teamed up with U.K. hotel chain The Hoxton.

The duo partnered with Los Angeles-based artist Michael McGregor to create a limited-edition, seven-piece capsule collection available only to guests across The Hoxton’s 19 hotels.

The Mark, which is located in the Upper East Side, is also known for its links with the fashion world and exclusive retail experience. One of New York’s most notable hotels, it is nearly synonymous with the Met Gala. First opened in 1926, The Mark has evolved from a neighborhood landmark into an international destination known for its discreet service, world-class dining and role at the center of New York’s social scene.

In 2018, The Mark announced the launch of its first e-commerce site, Le Shop.
