For the second day in a row, Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to remain off the radar, according to his office, but several members of his front bench team will be hitting the midsummer hustings today.

First up: Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald, who is slated to drop by the Charlottetown offices of Natural Products Canada to share the details of a new “investment” that, as per the advisory, “will help Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises in the agri-food sector overcome financial barriers and accelerate business growth.” (12 p.m. ADT)

Moving west, Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden wraps up two days of sports-centred funding reveals by highlighting a new joint push to boost “community soccer” in partnership with the City of Calgary and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities  (9:15 a.m. MT) and touring the Canmore Nordic Centre. (11 a.m. MT) 

Rounding out the roster, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Lena Metlege Diab teams up with her parliamentary secretary, Annie Koutrakis, to provide an update on online passport renewal during a morning appearance in Vancouver, B.C. (10 a.m. PT)

Meanwhile, CTV News reports that Canada – U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc will be joining Canada’s lead trade negotiator, Janice Charette, in Washington, D.C. later this week, although his office “would not specify which days the minister and (Charette) will be away, or with whom they will be meeting,” the network notes.

As CTV points out, the planned trip is set to get underway a little over a week after U.S. President Donald Trump “signed an executive order to impose a new 50 per cent tariff on some Canadian goods, including wine, hockey sticks and cement, for what his administration is characterizing as discriminatory trade policies, (which) are set to come into effect next month, (and) has also threatened to slap additional tariffs on Canada for the wildfire smoke crossing the border into U.S. states.”

Members of the Palestinian Students and Scholars at Risk Network hold a virtual briefing to provide an update on the “extensive delay of study permits for Gazan graduate students,” and reiterate their call for “immediate accountability and resolve from the federal government,” as outlined in an open letter to the prime minister co-signed by graduate student unions from across Canada.
