Sunny, a rambunctious Portuguese water dog that President Barack Obama got at the start of his second term in the White House, died Tuesday at the age of 13, Obama announced.
In social media posts Wednesday, Obama remembered Sunny as a “force of nature” and a cherished member of the family who loved his daughters and would often follow his team around. Sunny had her quirks, he wrote: She liked to jump over hedges on the South Lawn as if they didn’t exist, hated getting wet, and was “fiercely protective” of the family’s first dog, Bo, who died in 2021.
