
TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was lower in late-morning trading amid losses in the energy sector as the price of oil fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 50.14 points at 34,603.73.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 208.91 points at 50,670.59. The S&P 500 index was down 9.35 points at 7,509.77, while the Nasdaq composite was down 80.32 points at 26,575.86.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.29 cents US compared with 72.40 cents US on Tuesday.
The July crude oil contract was down US$2.93 at US$90.96 per barrel.
The August gold contract was down US$68.40 at US$4,466.60 an ounce.
