Between October and next May, Southwest Airlines plans scheduled flights to 121 airports. OAG data shows that 107 are domestic, whether within the Lower 48, Alaska, Hawaii, or US territories in the Caribbean. Service to Alaska materialized for the first time this year.

Southwest’s airport list includes Dallas Love Field (DAL), which has been part of the carrier’s network for 55 years. It was one of the airline’s first three airports. Southwest now has an average of 381 daily movements there (takeoffs and landings combined), which is why ‘major’ is used in the article. It is a major facility for the airline.

Southwest Has Ended Six Routes From Dallas Love Field

The carrier now describes itself as a hybrid operator which, following all its changes, is a much better description. Comparing Southwest’s network from DAL in 2025 through September 2026 with what is planned from October 2026 until May 2027 shows that eight routes have been removed.

Whether fairly or not, the list includes Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), to which Southwest last flew in June this year. ORD is the world’s busiest airport for flights, but not for passengers. Due to Southwest’s very busy operation at nearby Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), the airline has pulled out of ORD entirely.

Boise, Hartford, and Providence are not included. This is because flights usually resume around June 6 or June 7, both of which are beyond the current schedule window of June 2. It is, therefore, very likely that flights will be added in the coming weeks. As such, it does not appear that they have been removed. Southwest only began the first flight from DAL to Hartford on June 6, 2026.

Southwest Between Dallas Love & Palm Springs

Like three other routes mentioned in the table, the link from DAL to the Californian desert resort materialized during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Until then, no nonstop flights from DAL to PSP had existed at all. While not a like-for-like comparison, flights have been available between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and PSP for decades, primarily, of course, with American Airlines, but also with Delta Air Lines (1992-1994).

Southwest’s first DAL-PSP flight was on November 7, 2021, and the route was initially served until January 2022. When the operation resumed in November 2022, flights existed until June 2023, primarily with a daily operation. It returned between January and June 2024.

Things then changed dramatically, with service only between February and April 2025 and again in February 2026. In that winter month, US Department of Transportation data shows that Southwest only transported 399 passengers and filled a miserable 48.5% of available seats. Ouch. It was the carrier’s worst route from DAL by load factor after Midland/Odessa (48.4%).

Dallas Love Is Southwest’s Seventh Most-Served Airport

Let’s return to looking at October 2026 to next May. In this period, Southwest will have an average of 381 daily movements at DAL. It’ll be the seventh most-served airport, after Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS; 490 daily movements), Denver International Airport (DEN; 476), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI; 404), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX; 391), Nashville International Airport (BNA; 386), and MDW (383).

LAS will be Southwest’s new number one facility, replacing DEN. This is because the airline’s movements at LAS have grown by 3% year-over-year, while they’ve declined slightly at DEN. None of the top airports come close to BNA’s performance, with 14% more services and multiple new routes. As well as capitalizing on the growing popularity of Nashville, Southwest is also increasingly using BNA as an alternative to Atlanta and St. Louis for connecting passengers.
