Sony’s next PlayStation State of Play coming this Thursday, followed by a Japan and Asia-dedicated showcase

Our next port of call when it comes to major livestreams filled with game reveals isn’t too far off. Sonytoday announced the date of the next PlayStation State of Play presentation. The showcase airs Thursday, 3rd September.

It will be streamed live in the afternoon in Europe, kicking off at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST. In a blog post, Sony said to expect “updates and announcements” from both PlayStation Studios as well as third-party developers. The show ends with an “extended look” at the world of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Immediately following the show, another will begin: State of Play Japan. The second showcase, hosted by Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji, will focus on games from Japan and Asia. Sony said to expect “new gameplay, announcements, and more”. As always both shows will be accessible on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels, though Sony didn’t say how long either showcase is going to be.

The existence of this week’s State of Play leaked just a few days ago, when reliable insider NateTheHate posted about it on X. It’s not entirely surprising Sony would host a State of Play in September, of course; the company held one for the last several years, except this year’s edition falls earlier in the month than the most recent two.

Sony’s big September release is, of course, Marvel’s Wolverine. We’ve seen plenty from the game over the past few months. And, seeing as it’s set for release on 15th September, there isn’t really much more Sony can show to convince players to pre-order – save for maybe one more later.

Sony has several other titles in the works that could use an update, such as God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, the Ghost of Yotei expansion, and the mysterious Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. There’s obviously always a cavalcade of indie and mid-tier games that benefit from being featured in a State of Play, so expect a few of those, too.
