Minister Sidhu meets with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry


May 25, 2026 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada 

Today, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India in Ottawa.

During their meeting, the ministers advanced discussions on priorities in key sectors such as aerospace, agri-food, energy, technology and others that will support Canada’s goal of doubling Canada-India trade by 2030.

The ministers took stock of the Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement along with the chief trade negotiators. They highlighted the solid progress made during two rounds of negotiations toward this agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to conclude it this year. They also laid the groundwork for the third round, which Canada will host. They also explored how to further grow investment and strengthen air connectivity between the two countries.

Minister Sidhu announced that he is looking forward to bringing a business delegation to India this year and expressed that he looks forward to the rest of the visit as Canada and India will explore opportunities to grow bilateral trade and investment and deepen their economic partnership.
