Skyblivion’s release is “getting closer” as the massive Skyrim mod’s makers start recruiting for a big final marketing push


Skyblivion, that massive Oblivion remake mod which was originally set to release last year, finally seems to be on the verge of arrival. While they’ve still yet to put a full release date on it, the mod’s creators have announced that they’re looking for voluteers to join their comms team and contribute to a final push to get the word out about their creation.

“With our release getting closer, our communications team is expanding — and we need your help spreading the word,” Skyblivion comms lead Evan Flatt wrote in an announcement posted to the mod’s Discord and socials. “We’re looking for volunteers with a background in video production or social media to help support projects like trailer editing, gameplay captures, and developer interviews. You’ll be working alongside our communications department to get the word out!”

Game capture artists armed with the controllers required to capture smooth footage of the mod in action are what the team are specifically on the hunt for. Interested folks can apply via Skyblivion’s website.

As of writing, the modders haven’t put a release date on their work, something they’ve understandably been reluctant to do given their previous planned release window of 2025 seemingly proved an albatross and ended up falling through. We do at least know for sure that there will be a date, with Flatt himself having confirmed in late August that Skyblivion won’t be shadow-dropping out of the blue like Bethesda’s own Oblivion remaster did last year.

So, that begs the question. When? I think we can safely rule out November 19th due to GTA 6, even if there’d be no overlap in release platforms with that game only hitting console at launch and Skyblivion’s nature rendering it PC exclusive. We’re already in mid-September, so that likely means October or December assuming the modders do want to make like the rest of the games industry aside from Devolver Digital and avoid getting blasted off the face of the Earth by the great initial GTAening. Than again, World of Warcraft: Forever’s sneaking out on PC in early November, so perhaps Skyblivion can do something similar.

Regardless, all I’m hoping is that the mod enjoys as trouble free a launch as possible, given the fun its spiritual sibling Fallout: London had in terms of initial bugs. I’ll persevere as best I can either way, but others with less stubborn will in the face of CTDs and detaching skeletons might miss out if Skyblivion’s riddled with troubles early doors.
