Singapore Airlines has announced that it will permanently deploy its double-decker Airbus A380-800 to
Auckland Airport (AKL), a change from the otherwise temporary seasonal upscale to the superjumbo that was first announced earlier this year. Singapore is one of the largest foreign international carriers to New Zealand, with it serving both Auckland and Christchurch with daily flights.
The Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) based airline had planned to only use the A380 to seasonally upscale capacity for the Northern Hemisphere winter season. This would have seen the aircraft fly between Changi and New Zealand’s busiest airport in Auckland from October 25 to March 27. Now, it has plans to serve the city pair permanently with the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
Singapore Airlines Is Permanently Flying The Airbus A380 To Auckland
Reintroducing the double-decker from October 25, the airplane will replace an existing Boeing 777-300ER serving the route. The service will continue through the year, with a well-timed late evening departure from Singapore, pairing perfectly with international connections from its Changi hub.

This comes as the airline removes A380 services to
Dubai International Airport (DXB), freeing up the aircraft to now seemingly fly to Auckland instead. This is welcome news to Auckland, which otherwise only sees the A380 from Dubai-based
Emirates, with its daily nonstop flights to the Middle East.
Singapore’s A380 schedule is detailed below, published by Aeroroutes (data for April 2027 onwards):
Flight Number | Frequency | Dep. Airport | Dep. Time | Arr. Airport | Arr. Time | Aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SQ285 | 1x Daily | Singapore (SIN) | 10:50 PM | Auckland (AKL) | 12:20 PM | Airbus A380-800 |
SQ286 | 1x Daily | Auckland (AKL) | 2:10 PM | Singapore (SIN) | 9:00 PM | Airbus A380-800 |
Where Else Does Singapore Airlines Fly Its Airbus A380?
Dubai will now see Singapore fly the Airbus A350-900, shifting A380 capacity elsewhere. This leaves just seven routes that will be served from Singapore with the iconic double-decker. The most popular routes with the A380 for the northern winter is that of
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), which both welcome the aircraft twice daily. This pattern will remain the same through into the northern summer.
All other A380 routes served by Singapore include:
Destination | A380 Frequency |
|---|---|
Auckland (AKL) | 1x Daily |
Mumbai (BOM) | 1x Daily |
New Delhi (DEL) | 1x Daily |
Frankfurt (FRA) | 1x Daily (from March 28) |
London Heathrow (LHR) | 2x Daily |
Shanghai (PVG) | 1x Daily |
Sydney (SYD) | 2x Daily |
Singapore was the world’s launch customer for the A380 back in 2007, taking its first commercial passenger flight between Changi and Sydney. This operated as SQ380 in October, and the
Star Alliance carrier has continued to operate the type ever since.
Onward Connections Are Key For Auckland Passengers
Singapore itself is a popular tourist and business destination; however, the nation’s flag carrier also leverages its extensive global network to provide seamless transfers through the award-winning Changi Airport. According to Cirium, an online aviation analytics company, more than 200,000 passengers connected through Singapore from Auckland in the 12 months to July 2026.
The most popular onward destinations for travelers from Auckland were London, Delhi, Mumbai, Frankfurt, Paris, Colombo, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Amsterdam.
Aside from the A380 to Auckland, Singapore Airlines also maintains a daily A350-900 service to Christchurch Airport (CHC). During the northern winter, this will increase to ten weekly, with an additional three weekly seasonal flights. These will be complemented by Air New Zealand’s twice-daily flights from Auckland to Singapore, while the Kiwi carrier will also return to Singapore nonstop from Christchurch this October.
