Sarah J. Maas Reveals New ‘ACOTAR’ Books, Titles and Release Dates

It’s been more than five years since Sarah J. Maas last published a new A Court of Thorns and Roses novel. Since 2021’s A Court of Silver Flames, her recent releases have instead focused on the Crescent City series. Now, the wait for more ACOTAR is almost over, Maas has confirmed.

Rejoice, romantasy fans: Maas announced Monday that the sixth book in the series will be A Court of Splintered Harmony, out Oct. 27, 2026, followed by A Court of Forgotten Melody on Jan. 12, 2027.

The books will begin The Valkyrie Cycle, a new storyline continuing the ACOTAR series. Maas revealed the titles and covers in back-to-back Instagram posts, while digital billboards announcing the books appeared in Los Angeles, Denver, and New York City.

Maas first explained the books’ unusual structure during a March appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, describing them as one enormous, continuous story rather than a traditional trilogy. A Court of Splintered Harmony contains the story’s first movement, while A Court of Forgotten Melody contains movements two and three. A third, still-untitled book will contain the final movement.

What are the new ACOTAR books about?

Maas teased A Court of Splintered Harmony with the line, “What was broken will be remade,” while A Court of Forgotten Melody promises, “What was lost will be reclaimed.”

The publisher descriptions make clear that Koschei the Deathless will be the central threat across both books. In A Court of Splintered Harmony, his influence begins spreading across the Fae territories as Prythian struggles to recover from the Hybern War and fractures within the Night Court make a united response increasingly difficult.

  • A Court of Splintered Harmony releases Oct. 27, 2026 — “What was broken will be remade.”
  • A Court of Forgotten Melody releases Jan. 12, 2027 — “What was lost will be reclaimed.”
  • Both books are part of The Valkyrie Cycle.
  • A third, still-untitled book will complete the storyline.

By A Court of Forgotten Melody, those alliances are deteriorating even further. The Night Court’s Inner Circle is scattered in search of an advantage against Koschei and his allies, while old enemies resurface and the possibility of peace grows increasingly fragile.

Maas has not yet revealed which characters will take center stage in the new books, leaving one of the biggest questions for fans unanswered. Both books are available to preorder now through major retailers.
