The official Fortnite Twitter account appeared to unveil the battle pass lineup for its upcoming retro-gaming-themed season on Monday morning. But, even though the season trailer teased several new collab skins from other video games–like Crash Bandicoot and Mega Man–it looks the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass will have Sonic the Hedgehog as its only collab skin when the new season kicks off on Thursday.
It is possible, and maybe even likely, that Epic Games is holding something. The current battle pass, for Chapter 7 Season 3, included a Simpsons-fied version of John Wick that remained secret until the back half of the season.
Even if that ends up being the case, it’s very unusual for Epic to promote a new season of Fortnite primarily using collaboration skins that won’t be on the battle pass. The only previous time Epic did something like this was for 2025’s Star Wars mini-season, but that season’s pass still included three Star Wars character skins.

Aside from Sonic himself, the Chapter 7 Season 4 key art includes teases for Dr. Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Joker from Persona, a deer from a Roblox game, Pac-Man, and Spyro the Dragon. Since Spyro and Pac-Man are likely sidekicks, it’s still possible one or both could be included in the pass. You should expect plenty of other new collabs to pop up as well, especially with Fortnitemares taking place during the season.
All that whining aside, the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass still has some real gems on it. Aside from Sonic, the highlights are Wrixel and Mali. Mali is a fighting game character who has a pixelated style that makes her look like she was ripped straight out of Virtua Fighter. And Wrixel is a block person, a la Minecraft or Roblox, who can be customized in the styles for several Fortnite characters, like Jonesy.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, dubbed Override, begins on Thursday, August 20.
