Sarah Burton has reimagined a fan-favorite Givenchy shoe for a new era. Enter the Shark Pinch boot, teased on the fall 2026 ready-to-wear runway in Paris earlier this year.

One of Givenchy’s most recognizable styles, the creative director has reworked and renamed the boot. It was seen on the runway back in March in six variations, with the original signature line elongated to reach the thigh. The style is completed with the metal “Pinch” hardware, first seen as an accessory component for fall/winter ’25, Burton’s first season with the house.

Following the runway appearance, the Shark Pinch boot is now featured in the brand’s fall 2026 campaign, with Kaia Gerber and Eva Herzigová modeling two different versions of it.

While maintaining the boldness of the original boot shape, the Shark Pinch is nevertheless reinvented. The brand describes it in an official release as “embracing the tension between structure, sensuality and female empowerment that is at the heart of Sarah Burton’s creative vocabulary.”
The very first iteration of the boot was introduced in the house’s couture fall/winter 2008 collection and later developed for the women’s pre-fall 2012 collection, where it was given the name Shark, inspired by its distinctive shark tooth-shaped clasp. It quickly established itself as a signature silhouette, celebrated for its architectural construction and bold hardware, and continued to be updated through the years.

In terms of construction and technique, the Shark Pinch features a distinctive double shank construction which creates a sculptural, fluid and balanced silhouette. The architecture showcases a layering effect which offers depth and structure to the style. The design is intended to elongate the leg and naturally follow its movement. The Pinch hardware, meanwhile, is pulled from the signature design seen on Givenchy bags, originating with Burton’s tailoring techniques.

Celebrities are already helping draw attention to the new Shark Pinch boot, available now on Givenchy’s website.
Anya Taylor-Joy modeled a duchesse satin old masters floral embroidered corset bow dress with matching thigh-high Shark Pinch boots while on “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” press tour. Ariana Grande wore a custom Duchesse satin corset draped bow dress with silver wisteria embroidery and matching platform Shark Pinch boots on the opening night of her “Eternal Sunshine” tour. And Teyana Taylor dressed up for a pre-Oscars party in a red slash back sweater dress and exaggerated bow belt with the label’s bonbon gloves and thigh-high Shark Pinch boots in black leather.
Most recently, Jodie Comer attended a London photo call for “The Death of Robin Hood” on Wednesday wearing a black leather knee-high leather version of the boot with a white poplin midi shirt dress. As a reinterpretation of one of Givenchy’s most beloved shoes, the Shark Pinch will likely continue to be embraced by the fashion set.
