Cross-training enthusiasts have a new functional shoe from While On Earth, one’s that also perfect for the Hyrox audience.

The shoe is named CMC, after San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, who heavily influenced the design through his own testing of the shoe. He has been using the shoe for his functional training sessions that blend explosive work with more high intensity movements. The shoe was designed with the Hyrox audience in mind.

“In developing the CMC, I wanted to build something that reflects the way I strength train today: a shoe that can handle explosive, powerful movements and provide stability, durability, and lasting wear across different types of workouts,” McCaffrey said. “The specs of this shoe speak to that, including the TPU mid-foot plate and external heel counter.”

The NFL superstar joined While On Earth in August 2025 as a co-founder and investor. While On Earth has two other shoes in its arsenal. The first was the Move Trainer, a hybrid training shoe designed to transition across training modalities, such as heavy lifts and HIIT workout. It has a 6mm heel-to-toe drop plus other features that make it comfortable in any environment. The brand also has the Rhythm Runner, featuring lightweight performance suitable for daily miles and versatile training. It also has a refined rocker geometry that enables forward momentum, while also designed to transition from road runs to Hyrox, agility work and gym sessions.

“The Rhythm Runner, which we launched earlier this summer, was our first shoe built specifically for running. It’s great for everything from your easy shakeout run to long runs, treadmill miles, and the track. It’s also a good pick for high-intensity hybrid movements, featuring a breathable upper and rugged tread pattern,” McCaffrey said.

What’s different in the CMC is forefoot flexibility, a ground-contact multi-directional rubber outsole for grip and traction, a rubberized toe cap and forefoot, an external heel counter for explosive movement and an angled heel tab to ease pressure on the Achilles, among other features.

All three shoe options are available in sizes for both men and women.

While On Earth is a performance activewear brand that was co-founded by former Nobull chief marketing officer Todd Meleney, alongside CrossFit athletes Brooke Wells and Mat Fraser. Wells also serves as brand’s creative director for women’s apparel. The brand launched in fall 2024.

A number of brands have taken notice of the interest in Hyrox. Puma has introduced Hyrox-related products, and outdoor sports retailer Academy Sports + Outdoors began selling Hyrox branded fitness equipment in over 70 doors this past spring. Part of Academy’s Hyrox merchandising mix includes a Hyrox licensed shoe by Puma, although it isn’t certain how many Academy doors will offer the shoe.

In addition, running brand On in June debuted its Cloud X Tempo Pro sneaker, built for the rapidly growing sport of hybrid fitness racing. And earlier this month, Nike joined by Hyrox craze with the launch of its Nike Hybrid Fly and Nike Hybrid RN.
