Queen Camilla sported a historic piece of jewelry while in attendance at the Sky Bet Ebor Festival held yesterday at York Racecourse in York, England. The four-day horse racing takes place every August at York Racecourse and concludes with a handsome cash prize.

On the festival’s third day, the Queen wore a light pink collared dress with a boxy fit and a faux belted midsection. Rounding out her ensemble, Camilla stepped into a pair of beige Eliot Zed heels affixed with buckle accents and short heels. The shoe is a favorite of hers. Atop her head, the royal donned a wide-brimmed straw hat that sat up and off her face.

The star of Camilla’s look was attached to the brim of her sunhat: a ruby, diamond, and sapphire Minoru brooch hailing from the Edwardian period. The fine jewelry is horseshoe-shaped and features gemstone inlays that make it glisten in the light. The Queen tends to sport the brooch during equine events to honor King Edward VII and his legendary Thoroughbred racehorse that won the Epsom Derby in 1909. The piece is considered to be a lucky charm for the royal family.

Minoru was the name of the King’s beloved colt. In his victory, King Edward VII commissioned a handful of jewelry pieces, including a luxurious diamond scarf pin. When she’s not wearing her heirloom horseshoe, Camilla can sometimes be seen accessorizing with a horse-shaped brooch depicted mid-gallop. The diamond-encrusted pin once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II and was gifted to her for her 90 birthday.

The brooch was comissioned by Alabaster and Wilson and remains in Camilla’s rotation to this day. Many members of the royal family choose to keep their history alive through heirloom jewelry.
