During the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Canadian initiatives that strengthen democratic resilience, combat corruption and transnational crime, support security and governance institutions and promote stability and security in Haiti.

Project: Fight Against Corruption and Impunity in Haiti
Partner: United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in partnership with the Organization of American States and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
Funding: $10 million (2025-2026 to 2028-2029)

This project will strengthen Haiti’s capacity to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute corruption, economic crime and money laundering while supporting accountability institutions and combatting organized criminal networks.

Project: Support At-Risk Youth, Fostering Empowerment in Haiti
Partner: United Nations Children’s Fund
Funding: $8 million (2025-2026 to 2028-2029)

This project aims to prevent gang recruitment among children and youth while supporting the safe release and reintegration of those already associated with armed groups.

Project: Strengthening a comprehensive and holistic response to sexual violence in Haiti
Funding: $4 million over two years

This project will strengthen survivor-centred responses to sexual and gender-based violence in Haiti through access to health, psychosocial, legal and protection services while supporting the long-term recovery and reintegration of survivors.

Project: Enhancing Polygraph Effectiveness of the Haitian National Police
Funding: $3 million over 2 years

This project will strengthen the integrity and operational capacity of the Haitian National Police by supporting the establishment and implementation of a professional polygraph unit.

Project: Addressing Mis/Disinformation and Violent Speech in Haitian Online Spaces
Funding: $245,000 over nine months

This project will support Haitian civil society, media organizations and online influencers in addressing harmful online content that contributes to gang recruitment and violence.

Project: Bâtir la paix en Haïti avec les ressources locales [Building peace in Haiti using local resources]
Funding: $250,000 over 12 months

This project will improve community security and resilience in violence-affected communities through dialogue, mediation, psychosocial support and locally led peacebuilding initiatives.

Project: Humanitarian Assistance for Yemen
Funding: $31.4 million

This funding will provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations in Yemen, including food assistance; health services; protection; and water, sanitation and hygiene support. Canada’s assistance will help address urgent humanitarian needs resulting from one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.

Project: Humanitarian Assistance for Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Funding: $27 million

This funding will provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to people affected by crisis in the DRC, including food assistance; health services; protection; prevention of and response to gender-based violence; and water, sanitation and hygiene support.

Project: Exposing Malign Russian Influence in the Balkans through Investigative Reporting and Advocacy
Partner: Balkan Investigative Reporting Network
Funding: $994,345

This project will strengthen democratic resilience, accountability and regional stability across the Western Balkans by helping expose and counter Russian hybrid threats through investigative reporting, training journalists and policy engagement.
