Penélope Cruz gave Matthieu Blazy’s reworked Chanel cap-toe another outing in Los Angeles on Saturday, attending a SAG-AFTRA Foundation conversation for “The Invite” in Mary Janes and a navy suit from the house’s cruise 2027 collection.

Cruz went with the black-and-white Mary Janes shown with Look 20 on the Biarritz runway. White leather covered most of the upper, while glossy black patent traced the opening, crossed the instep in a slim buckled strap and capped the tapered, subtly squared toe. The sculpted heel narrowed on its way down, giving the pair a cleaner, less solid profile than a standard block heel.

She wore them with the navy suit from Look 62, though not exactly as it appeared on the runway. Cruz traded the plunging black bodysuit with white trim for a scoop-neck white top tucked into the high-waisted trousers. She also rolled the jacket sleeves to show the pale pinstriped lining. Gold-tone buttons ran down the front of the fitted jacket, with matching hardware at the waistband.

Cruz, who has been a Chanel ambassador since 2018, had tested another of Blazy’s revised two-tone pumps at Cannes in May. For the “La Bola Negra” photo call, she chose a black-and-white ankle-strap pair with a d’Orsay-like cut, pieced leather and a white counter curving around the heel. Other stars like Lily-Rose Depp, Teyana Taylor and Tilda Swinton have also styled new cap-toe silhouettes from the house over the past month.
Blazy kept working on Chanel’s cap-toe in cruise 2027, after already testing the code in his earlier collections for the house. He carried it across slingbacks, cutout pumps and bright color-blocked styles, then stripped it back to sandals made from little more than ankle straps and heel caps. Cruz chose one of the collection’s more familiar takes, but the pinched heel and black outline around the upper kept it from looking like a straight archive pull.

Cruz joined director Olivia Wilde and costar Seth Rogen for the screening and conversation of the upcoming dramedy. A24 will release “The Invite,” about a strained couple whose dinner with their upstairs neighbors takes an increasingly revealing turn, in select theaters June 26, followed by a wide release July 10.
