The Airbus A330-900neo was designed as a long-haul widebody, but a small number of operators are using it on routes that push well beyond 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 km) and produce block times exceeding 12 hours. According to Cirium schedule data for January through December 2026, six routes serving US airports on the A330-900neo exceed 4,900 nautical miles (9,075 km), with the longest covering 5,521 nautical miles (10,230 km) between Rome and Los Angeles.

Three carriers operate these routes: ITA Airways, Delta Air Lines, and Condor. Delta appears on three of the six, covering transatlantic, transpacific, and West African services from its Atlanta and Seattle hubs. ITA Airways takes the top two positions with its Rome to California routes. Condor rounds out the list with a Frankfurt to Los Angeles leisure route.

Athens – Atlanta

Delta Air Lines operates the Athens to Atlanta route on the A330-900neo with 324 flights in each direction scheduled for 2026. Westbound block time from Athens to Atlanta runs approximately 12 hours, 15 minutes to 12 hours, 30 minutes. The eastbound leg is shorter at roughly 10 hours to 10 hours 30 minutes, benefiting from tailwinds on the outbound transatlantic crossing.

The route operates seasonally from March through October with up to two daily frequencies during peak summer months, serving a combination of Mediterranean leisure demand and the large Greek-American diaspora concentrated in the southeastern United States. Atlanta is Delta’s primary hub, and Athens is one of several European destinations that Delta connects nonstop from its home base rather than routing through a coastal gateway like JFK or Boston. The A330-900neo replaced the older 767-300ER on the route, bringing a 20% improvement in fuel efficiency and a significantly upgraded cabin product including Delta One Suites and Premium Select.

At 4,953 nautical miles (9,175 km), Athens to Atlanta is the sixth longest A330-900neo route on this list and Delta’s longest A330-900neo route to Europe. The route generates over 518 million available seat miles for the year, reflecting both the distance and the high frequency Delta maintains during the operating season.

Delta Air Lines is the sole operator of nonstop service between Seattle and Shanghai Pudong, with 86 to 87 flights in each direction scheduled on the A330-900neo for 2026. Westbound block time from Seattle to Shanghai runs approximately 12 hours 45 minutes to 13 hours 30 minutes depending on seasonal jet stream conditions. The eastbound return is faster at roughly 11 hours 28 minutes.

Delta operates the route at daily frequency from its Seattle hub, which serves as the airline’s primary Pacific gateway. Seattle to Shanghai is one of the most strategically significant routes in Delta’s transpacific network, connecting the US Pacific Northwest to China’s largest commercial city. Delta is partnered with China Eastern Airlines through a joint venture, which extends connectivity beyond Shanghai to dozens of mainland Chinese destinations.

At 4,972 nautical miles (9,212 km), the Seattle to Shanghai crossing is the only transpacific route on this list and the only route operating over the Pacific rather than the Atlantic. Condor operates the Frankfurt to Los Angeles route on the A330-900neo with 165 flights in each direction scheduled for 2026. Eastbound block time from Los Angeles to Frankfurt runs approximately 10 hours 15 minutes to 11 hours 15 minutes. The westbound leg from Frankfurt to Los Angeles is longer at roughly 12 hours due to headwinds on the transatlantic crossing. Condor operates the route daily during the summer season and reduces to connecting service with a stop during winter months.

Condor is the only non-US, non-Gulf carrier on this list. The German leisure airline completed a full fleet renewal in 2024, replacing its Boeing 767-300ERs with 18 A330-900neos and rebranding with a distinctive striped livery. Condor operates from a Frankfurt hub and has no alliance membership, competing directly against Lufthansa on the Frankfurt to Los Angeles route. The airline carries 310 passengers per A330-900neo in a three-class layout, including 26 business class lie-flat seats and four larger Prime seats in the front row. Business class fares are typically priced below Lufthansa on the same route, and the airline has become a popular option for award bookings through Alaska Airlines’ mileage program at 70,000 miles one-way.

At 5,045 nautical miles (9,348 km), it sits in the middle of the A330-900neo’s range capability, well within the aircraft’s published maximum of approximately 7,200 nautical miles (13,334 km).

Lagos – Atlanta

Delta Air Lines is the sole operator of nonstop service between Lagos and Atlanta, with 60 flights in each direction scheduled on the A330-900neo for 2026. Westbound block time from Lagos to Atlanta runs approximately 12 hours 45 minutes. The eastbound leg from Atlanta to Lagos is shorter at roughly 11 hours 15 minutes to 11 hours 55 minutes. The route operates approximately four times per week rather than daily, reflecting a demand profile that is consistent but not at the frequency level of Delta’s European services from Atlanta.

Lagos is the only West African destination Delta serves nonstop from the United States, and Atlanta’s large Nigerian-American community is a significant source of passenger demand on the route. Cargo revenue is also a meaningful component. Westbound flights carry perishables and electronics, while eastbound flights transport machinery and pharmaceuticals; freight income reportedly accounts for a substantial share of the route’s total revenue. Delta replaced the Boeing 767-300ER on the route with the A330-900neo, which brought additional cargo capacity alongside the cabin product upgrade.

At 60 flights per direction, Lagos to Atlanta is the lowest-frequency route on this list. Delta also operates the route with other widebody types, including the A330-200, A350-900, and A330-900neo, depending on scheduling and demand periods.

ITA Airways operates the Rome Fiumicino to San Francisco route on the A330-900neo with 223 flights in each direction scheduled for 2026. Westbound block time from Rome to San Francisco runs approximately 12 hours 50 minutes. The eastbound return from San Francisco to Rome is slightly shorter at roughly 12 hours 10 minutes. ITA operates the route daily during the summer peak and reduces to as few as one weekly frequency during the slowest winter months, scaling capacity to match seasonal demand rather than maintaining a fixed year-round schedule.

ITA launched the route in July 2023 and has built it into one of its longest scheduled services from Rome. The airline configures its A330-900neo with 291 seats across three classes: 30 business class in a 1-2-1 layout with lie-flat seats, 24 premium economy, and 237 economy. United Airlines also operates nonstop between San Francisco and Rome using Boeing 777 equipment during the summer season, giving the route two carriers and two alliance families. ITA is a SkyTeam member and is in the process of integrating into the Lufthansa Group, which will eventually bring the airline into the Star Alliance alongside United.

At 5,443 nautical miles (10,085 km), Rome to San Francisco is ITA’s second-longest A330-900neo route and the second longest on this list. The route pushes the A330-900neo into the upper portion of its range envelope, though the aircraft’s published maximum of approximately 7,200 nautical miles (13,334 km) leaves a comfortable margin. ITA’s fleet of 11 A330-900neos has an average age under two years, making it one of the youngest widebody fleets of any European carrier.

The airline has since transitioned the route to the Airbus A350, upgauging to a larger aircraft with more seats and additional range margin on what is the longest route on this list. Westbound block time from Rome to Los Angeles runs approximately 13 hours to 13 hours 30 minutes. The eastbound return is shorter at roughly 12 hours.

ITA operates the route at lower frequency than the San Francisco pairing, with 120 flights per direction compared to 223 for San Francisco. The lower frequency reflects the competitive dynamics of the Los Angeles market, where ITA faces nonstop competition from both United Airlines and Delta partner airlines on connecting itineraries. The transition from the A330-900neo to the A350 on this route aligns with what ITA has done on other high-demand long-haul services, deploying the larger aircraft where the additional capacity and range are justified.
