Oh lord, Konami want yearly Silent Hill games alongside vaguely described “experiences,” just don’t let that be another movie

After an entire decade without a proper new Silent Hill game, in the past three years we’ve had two completely new games (one of which was pretty damn good if you ask me), one remake, whatever Ascension was meant to be, and the laughably bad new film. A mixed bunch, to be sure, but food is food, and Silent Hill lovers have been starving for more. We’re a month away from the next game in the horror series releasing, Silent Hill: Townfall, and according to the franchise’s producer, you can expect new games pretty often.

“Our aim is to, hopefully, have an annual release of new games,” said Motoi Okamoto in an interview with GamesRadar. That certainly has been true since 2024, though after Townfall there’s nothing publicly on the slate. Okamoto clears that up too though, saying, “There are still many projects that are still under the works and very unannounced titles. So obviously, we can’t go into specifics. But there are still many projects that we are currently exploring and working on as we speak.” Perhaps post-release we expect a Silent Hill Direct or whatever they call their version of those things.

Obviously one of the more notable things about both Silent Hill f and Townfall is that neither of them are set in America, as has been typical for the series. “If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase,” Okamoto explains on that front, which certainly seems to suggest we can expect future games to be similar. The producer also notes that not fixing the setting just within America allows devs to “work within the types of environments and the types of storytelling that works best for them.”

Okamoto also made note that there are “many types of games” and “more experiences” on the horizon, making it sound like Konami plan to continue their multimedia exploits, despite how offensive Return to Silent Hill was to me personally. I’m not so sure we do desperately need yearly Silent Hill games though. As much as I am enamoured by f, and feel cautiously optimistic about Townfall, an over saturation could veer into an overwhelming amount to contend with. Mostly I just don’t want Christophe Gans going anywhere near the series again, at least give me that.
