It’s been quite some time since a first look at New Balance’s moccasin-meets-sneaker hybrid surfaced and now, more looks and information on the new shoe are making the rounds from Paris Fashion Week.

The New Balance 1890A, first seen in a snakeskin-adorned leather makeup in June 2025, was previewed in Paris in three new styles. With a sporty underfoot midsole reminiscent of the full-length 2002 tooling, the Abzorb-cushioned mash-up features an entirely new upper which features technical overlays on the lateral and medial sides before shifting to a less-ornate moccasin toe and shoelace configuration. It’s not quite a loafer, yet isn’t fully rooted in a sneaker build either, and could instead represent a new hybrid direction from the Boston-based brand.

The 1890A was previewed in dark green leather and gray and beige suede makeups. The suede looks feature perforated toes, while the leather style uses a clean smooth finish.

The new model was also shared to Instagram by New Balance designer Yue Wu, who’s been responsible for several of the brand’s hit sneakers in recent years including the Refined Future 1906R (colloquially known as the “Protection Pack”) and popular inline colorways of the 9060 and 610 models. Wu also worked on the just-released Liquid Metal redesign of the Abzorb 2000 model.

The 1890A is an extension of the 1890 sneaker, which debuted Friday through a collaboration with rapper Action Bronson. 

While it remains to be seen if the 1890A will captivate consumers on the same level the sneaker loafer did, if any brand is up for the task, it’s New Balance. The sportswear company is widely credited with popularizing the sneaker loafer trend thanks to its 1906L fusion, which was designed by Charlotte Lee.

The New Balance 1890A is expected to be released later this year for a to-be-determined retail price.
