Minister Ng meets with Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry

Yesterday, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, met with YB Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry during the Team Canada Trade Mission to Malaysia and Vietnam. The mission is a fantastic opportunity for Canadian and Malaysian businesses to connect on trade opportunities and foster stronger people-to-people ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Ng and YB Tengku Zafrul discussed strengthening trade relations and investing in people-to-people ties between Canada and Malaysia as part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. They also spoke about the progress toward an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Canada free trade agreement.

Minister Ng highlighted Canada’s support of rules-based international trade and the growing relationship with Malaysia, which is facilitated by both countries’ membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. 

Minister Ng reiterated Canada’s commitment to a deeper trade relationship with Malaysia. Canada is proud to be a reliable partner with Malaysia in cyber, energy and food security. They also exchanged views on future opportunities in aerospace and defence, agriculture and processed foods (including fish and seafood), clean energy, clean technologies, and information and communications technologies.
