The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Villers-Cotterêts and Paris, France, from October 3 to 5, 2024, to participate in the 19th Francophonie Summit.
Minister Joly will meet with her counterparts from La Francophonie member countries to advance common goals, such as supporting human rights and promoting democracy and gender equality. She will also discuss the importance of the French language as a lever for economic and cultural development and explore ways of consolidating relationships between member states.
The 19th Francophonie Summit, under the theme “Create, innovate and do business in French,” will be an opportunity for Minister Joly to join Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in promoting the French language and reaffirming Canada’s commitment to La Francophonie.
