Michigan’s Will Tschetter joins Trail Blazers for NBA Summer League

Make it six former Michigan basketball players from the national championship team that are now in the NBA Summer League.

Will Tschetter, who recently ended his U-M career after a fifth year and had been tearing it up for the Warwick Senators as part of the NBL1 West in Australia − averaging 28.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game − earned an NBA Summer League invitation and has joined the Portland Trail Blazers.

The team posted pictures with him participating in practice on their social media and his father, Garth, shared the news on X shortly thereafter.

Michigan basketball 2026-27 roster for title defense

A look at the roster for defending NCAA champion Michigan basketball for the 2026-27 season …

(Junfu Han, Detroit Free Press)

Tschetter was a role player for the Wolverines last season, averaging 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game as a wing and energy player for the eventual champions. Michigan saw six players from its title team leave early for the NBA or because they were out of eligibility.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward was the only one not on a Summer League team after Morez Johnson Jr. (No. 9 pick, Dallas), Yaxel Lendeborg (No. 11, Golden State) and Aday Mara (No. 12, Oklahoma City) were all selected in the lottery portion of the draft while guards Roddy Gayle Jr. (Detroit) and Nimari Burnett (Toronto) were not drafted, but quickly signed with teams to try and make their way into the league through the back door.

Tschetter, who spent five years in Ann Arbor and went from being part of the worst team in modern Michigan history (8-24 in 2023-24) to the best team in the program’s history (37-3 in 2025-26), will keep his dream of playing in the alive.

Portland’s first game is Friday, July 10 against the Suns (11 p.m. ET, ESPNU) at the Pavilion in Las Vegas.
