While many of the fans at Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium sported their favorite team’s colors, First Lady Melania Trump is showing off some American spirit.

FLOTUS and President Donald Trump aren’t the only dignitaries in the estimated 80,000-person crowd in East Rutherford, N.J.. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney were expected, as well as Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who flew in with their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.

The Trumps were seated with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his wife Leena Al Ashqar. Although the U.S. team’s bid ended in the quarterfinals, the first lady showed some loyalty for American brands at Sunday’s clash by sporting a white Gap T-shirt, a Thom Browne bomber jacket and Ralph Lauren trousers. The former model opted for oversized mirrored sunglasses and Roger Vivier flats instead of her signature stilettos.

Win or lose, Team Spain delivers their own designer power, thanks to a four-year deal with Loewe, whose Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez create their traveling wardrobes. In fact, there has been a fashion undercurrent throughout the World Cup. Shakira kicked off the event on June 11 wearing Off-White for her hips-shaking performance at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, while Jennifer Hudson sang the U.S. National Anthem ahead of Sunday’s Final Game in custom Thom Browne. And Shakira, Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber lined up for the first World Cup halftime show.

The nonchalant stadium style Victoria Beckham embraced while rooting for England’s national team was at times an attraction in itself. While her husband, David, turned up in business suits for England’s matches, the British designer, who recently collaborated with Gap, went more casual. A white T-shirt and ultra-pale blue jeans were among her winning outfits.

Not surprisingly, thousands of spectators turned up in replica soccer jerseys for their team of choice. Adidas is the official kit maker for the Lionel Messi-led Argentinian squad and the Rodrigo Hernández’ Spanish crew. And it is safe to say that many others among the more than 1.5 billion people, who were expected to tune in globally, were too. All of that fandom could be factors in employers’ projected $11.7 billion loss in productivity domestically, due to the 2026 World Cup.
