Minecraft maker Mojang has announced The Sift, a new Minecraft dimension that will join the Overworld, the Nether, and The End when it launches on Java and Bedrock in 2027. It’s the first new dimension added to the game since The End arrived in 2011.

The Sift will appear first in Minecraft Dungeons 2, slated for release on 29th September, before coming to the base game next year.

The Sift was announced during Minecraft Live on 26th September, alongside the wider Dungeons 2 reveal. We didn’t get much information about it – Mojang is holding back most of the details for now – but did describe it as a new environment that will bring new biomes, mobs, and ways to play and explore. As yet, there’s no firm release date.

“Minecraft Live revealed that the newest Minecraft dimension isn’t just finding its home in Dungeons 2, it’ll also be coming to Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year,” the team teased.

“This will be the first new dimension in over 14 years – joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End as our fourth dimension. During the broadcast, you got a glimpse into this dimension in Minecraft – and even one of the mobs that calls it home. But surely that’s not enough! Luckily you can experience it for yourself in Minecraft Dungeons 2 – coming September 29, 2026.”

We also learned that Minecraft World will open in London at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in 2027, and have “something for every type of player”.

“Are you an explorer? Great, this place is enormous. A builder? Let me show you to the world’s first Minecraft World Hotel, where you can enjoy meals in a deep-sea diner, recharge in themed rooms, and mingle with mobs. No word on phantoms, but that’s mainly because the beds are so comfortable that sleep deprivation has yet to be an issue!”

There’ll also be the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster, which is both in- and outdoors and described as “terrifying and thrilling”.

Earlier today we reported that more than 300,000 players try Minecraft for the first time every single day. That’s according to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who announced on Twitter/X over the weekend that despite 17 years and 425 million copies sold, “Minecraft is still finding new players”.
