A firm is lobbying the feds to secure contracts for their technical services when it comes to designing vessels, port infrastructure and managing ice at terminals.

Lars Andersen, a consultant with Sandstone Group, registered this past week to lobby on behalf of Railo Technology Canada Inc.

According to his mandatory disclosure documents, Andersen wrote that Railo is lobbying to o secure contracts in the Canadian market relating to the provisioning of technical services related to vessel capability and design, port infrastructure and terminal ice management. The company also want to provide input on transportation policies regarding Arctic port development, logistics solutions, ship building, vessel design and regulatory compliance.

All lobbyists working on behalf of a separate company — known as consultants — must register with the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying. Those lobbying for their direct employer must also register but only if that work constitutes a significant amount of their duties.

Since Aug. 1, no organization had more than three registrations made on their behalf. 

Over that span, T. Murray Rankin Law Corporation and Crestview Strategy led all registrant groups with four filings.

Thomas Fresh Inc. was registered by Kent Hehr, a consultant with Northern Arc Public Affairs, with the main focus of their lobbying efforts being on discussing the development of the National Food Security Strategy and the Next Policy Framework as they affect domestic food processing and Western Canadian food supply chains. The client also sought funding under the Food Security Fund and the Collaborative Food Innovation Fund, Agricultural Clean Technology Program, AgriMarketing Market Diversification stream, NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program, and AgriScience Projects.
