LEGO Announces E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Figure That’s Roughly Quarter Life Size

Lovable alien E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial will soon be able to build in LEGO form, with movable appendages and a light-up chest so you can make his heart glow.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (21370) will launch on August 1, priced at $139.99 / £119.99 and is available to pre-order now from Lego.com. The set will contain 1,226 pieces and measure 24cm in height (plus 21cm in width and 15cm in depth). This means the figure is almost exactly quarter scale, with the real E.T. roughly 1m tall.

As you’d expect, you can pose your E.T. model’s head and hands to recreate his iconic “phone home” pose. Other details include a buildable pot plant of sunflowers, and a light-up brick in his chest to illuminate E.T.’s heart in red. (You cannot, sadly, make E.T.’s finger light up, however.)

LEGO’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial set will be the latest LEGO Ideas creation to see release. This is the range of fan-submitted ideas for future sets that are then voted upon by the wider LEGO fan community. But it’s not the first time LEGO has featured the character — the lovable off-worlder was previously a minifigure in LEGO Dimensions.

The original E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial movie launched in 1982, starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore, and directed by Stephen Spielberg. Various plans for a sequel were discussed over the years, and Thomas eventually reunited with his alien puppet in 2019 for a Christmas-themed short film, A Holiday Reunion, which was actually a long commercial for Xfinity.

Will you welcome E.T. back into your home this year?
