Preorder today: Nintendo is celebrating 40 years of Zelda this year and releasing special anniversary-edition hardware to mark the occasion. That includes a rather lovely The Legend of Zelda 40th-anniversary edition Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, and it’s already up for preorder on a number of online stores with a $100 asking price.

It’s sold out pretty much everywhere at the moment, but don’t panic if you didn’t secure yours yet. Availability has been coming and going since preorders went live yesterday, so you may still have a chance to grab one if you’re quick. And to help you out, we’ll be tracking the stock at most major retailers below. The controller goes on sale on Oct. 29, so you’ll have to wait a little while to get your hands on one, regardless.

Preorders may be sold out at Nintendo for the moment, but the site does suggest you “check back soon,” which means we could see it back in stock at some point. 

According to Best Buy’s preorder page, availability will be “coming soon,” which means this could be your best bet to snag a preorder. Plus, you can actually score some savings if you’ve got an old controller to trade in.

Preorders are currently listed as “not available” at GameStop, but that doesn’t mean it’s actually sold out. Availability has been coming and going throughout the day, so you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on this page. 

Preorders are currently out of stock at Walmart, but you can sign up to receive email alerts about future availability.

Things seem pretty definitive at Target, which lists that “preorders have sold out” and suggests you check back on release day. Nothing is guaranteed, however, so it’s still worth keeping an eye on. 

Nintendo is also offering a special Zelda version of the Switch 2 if you want to go the whole hog with your anniversary celebrations. It’ll go on sale on the same day as the controller, and preordering is definitely recommended — we expect this to be one popular console. Nintendo announced both new hardware releases alongside more details of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The game will be released on Nov. 5.

As for the Pro Controller, it’s functionally identical to the standard one. But the real fun is in the way it looks, because it’s a stunner. Finished in black, green and gold, the controller features decorative patterns that are inspired by the Zelda games.

In terms of features, you’ll get the same support for HD Rumble 2, motion controls and built-in Amiibo functionality as the standard controller. Long-lasting battery life, back buttons and a built-in audio jack for headphones round out the main features.

If you just want the Switch Pro Controller functionality without the fancy new artwork, the standard model is for you. It’s $11 cheaper than the Zelda version at just $89, and it’s available right now.
