Summary: Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress is exactly the upgrade I needed to help me get the full night of sleep I’d been craving for so long. As a combination sleeper that shares a bed with my partner, I found this latex hybrid mattress nicely breathable and scent-free, with limited motion transfer. It provides the perfect balance of cushion and support for a refreshing night of sleep every single night!

Pros:

  • I love that this mattress has no break-in period. From day one, I slept deeper than I have in years, plus my rampant neck and shoulder tension has naturally improved.
  • The mattress is breathable, cooling, and comfy, even when sleeping with my partner, who runs warm. There’s also minimal motion transfer, making it really feel like I have the whole bed to myself. My partner agrees!
  • Silk & Snow’s mattress feels balanced, offering the perfect amount of firmness and responsiveness for someone who sleeps mostly on their stomach and occasionally their back!

Cons:

  • The medium-firm mattress is more on the firm side rather than right between plush and firm. Silk & Snow is transparent about this on their mattress firmness scale! If you’re a committed side sleeper, you should consider their plush option, while those who sleep on their backs and stomachs will enjoy the balance of the medium-firm mattress.
  • The box and mattress itself are heavy, likely due to the layers of organic latex. Be sure to employ extra help when moving and setting up the mattress.

I’ve never thought too much about the mattresses I’ve slept on. Growing up, I slept on a little innerspring twin, alongside the super flat pillow I was a bit too attached to. As I got older, my mattress preferences became a bit more apparent — I typically enjoyed firmer ones as I was used to sleeping on my stomach — though I am now more acclimated to sleeping on my back and occasionally my side. I now consider myself a full-fledged combo sleeper!

Once I moved in with my partner and now-husband, I claimed my side of his 6-year-old hybrid mattress and I immediately noticed some big differences from my childhood twin. His side of the mattress had a significant dent, leaving my side of the mattress uncomfortably high. To my partner’s dissatisfaction, I found myself rolling and taking over the center of the mattress, causing us both to wake up multiple times throughout the night to readjust ourselves. Oops!

“Replacing our mattress would be a challenge: I sleep cool, while my partner sleeps warm, and our bodies never seem to adjust to the right temperature. We also both deal with neck and shoulder tension.”

Replacing our mattress would be a challenge: I sleep cool, while my partner sleeps warm, and our bodies never seem to adjust to the right temperature. We also both deal with neck and shoulder tension (who doesn’t?!) and while we were committed to our routine chiropractor appointments, daily stretches, and strengthening exercises, the tension would slightly ease, yet always return, without constant upkeep.

Soon, it became clear that the time for a mattress upgrade had finally come. We heavily considered a latex mattress as it is naturally supportive, responsive, and known to be breathable. When the opportunity came along to test out Silk & Snow’s latex hybrid mattress, we had to say yes! I couldn’t be more ecstatic to upgrade to a high-quality mattress that’s organic, too.

As for the quality of their mattresses, Silk & Snow uses GOLS-certified organic latex, GOTS-certified organic cotton, and GOTS-certified wool in their composition. The brand is also OKEO-TEX certified, and their mattresses are tested by the Eco-Institut to ensure you’re not sleeping with any harsh or harmful chemicals. Reading more about Silk & Snow’s commitment to quality and giveback initiatives only intrigued me further and helped me rest easy knowing I’m supporting a brand that truly cares about making a positive impact.
