The Toronto Blue Jays are 14-16 to begin the 2026 MLB season, and things haven’t gone well at all for a team with World Series aspirations.

Amid such a shaky start to the year, and with the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies firing their managers already, the question naturally falls on John Schneider with his job security.
But, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays skipper is not on the hot seat this season despite the disappointing start to the year. It’s not a good way to begin the season, but Schneider is, as expected, not going anywhere.
John Schneider has a safe job with Blue Jays
“The most extreme struggles have already led to managerial changes in Boston and Philadelphia,” Passan writes. “… John Schneider is plenty safe in Toronto, but the Blue Jays’ injury-battered start is nevertheless disappointing.”

While the Blue Jays haven’t gotten off to the start of the year they were hoping for, sitting 5.5 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East, it’s too soon to tear things down.
The Blue Jays have been dealing with some huge injury problems, with Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger, and Nathan Lukes all on the injured list. George Springer was also on the IL, but was activated recently.

But that’s only the lineup. In the rotation, the Blue Jays have lost Cody Ponce for the season due to an ACL injury, and are now without Max Scherzer, right as they were getting Trey Yesavage back. Jose Berrios and Shane Bieber are still on the IL, too.

Overall, the injury-plagued Blue Jays, while their start has been disappointing, don’t look poised to fire Schneider any time soon.
It’s a frustrating start to the year, but with the plethora of injuries to key contributors, and the Blue Jays coming off a World Series appearance, and their recent success, Schneider’s job in Toronto is safe.
