Ever since the Airbus A380 entered service in 2007, the super jumbo has been home to some of the world’s best and most exclusive first class offerings. The A380’s iconic nature and incredible amount of space has allowed airlines to innovate first class into something closer to what one might expect out of a private jet flight, not a commercial one.

Airlines like Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Etihad Airways all offer some of the most luxurious first class products in the sky. For travelers willing to pay thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars for airfare, these first class suites remain among the most incredible experiences in commercial aviation, all onboard the Airbus A380.

Singapore Airlines: A Refined First Class Experience

By nearly all measures, Singapore Airlines holds the top spot of any airline’s first class offerings, not only on the Airbus A380. In 2025, Singapore Airlines was named the World’s Best First Class Airline at the yearly Skytrax World Airline Awards, also winning awards for Best First Class Onboard Catering and Best First Class Airline Seat. All of these relate to its massive hotel-room-like “Suites” product onboard the carrier’s Airbus A380.

Once stepping onboard the second deck of the A380, passengers will be greeted with a first class cabin of just six suites, with three along each side of the aircraft. Each suite has a footprint of upwards of 100 square feet (9.3 square meters), featuring both a large 21-inch (53 cm), 270 degree swivel leather armchair and a separate 76-inch (1.93 m) long bed. Suites guests also have three windows to enjoy themselves, as well as marbled-topped counters, plenty of storage, and a giant 32-inch (81 cm) HD television screen to enjoy Singapore Airlines’ robust inflight entertainment options.

Perhaps the most iconic part of the suite, however, is the ability to convert it into a double suite. By lowering the wall next to the bed, passengers traveling together can share two suites at once, as well as a full double bed measuring 54-inches (1.37 m) wide. This allows guests to enjoy the complimentary Krug Champagne, Lalique amenity kits and pajamas, as well as Singapore’s signature “Book the Cook” award-winning dining program, offering restaurant quality meals at 40,000 feet.

Emirates Iconic A380 First Class Shines Golden

While Singapore Airlines’ Suites offering is impressive by all measures, no first class product is as visually iconic as Emirates A380 First Class. Available on all the Dubai-based carrier’s 116 A380s, Emirates’ first class is as opulent as it is luxurious. From the moment passengers step onboard, the gold-trimmed finishes, cream leather seats, and wood paneling offer a sense of Dubai’s luxury in the air. Few airlines have embraced visual opulence to the same degree as Emirates, with gold being visible in all the airline’s cabins and lounges, and the result is a product that remains as one of the best first class offerings nearly 20 years after its debut.

Each of Emirates A380s features 14 private first class suites arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration on the upper deck. Within the suite, each seat is 22-inches wide (56 cm), growing to 28-inches (71 cm) when reclined fully to become the 75-inch (1.91 m) long bed. Additionally, at the front of the suite, passengers will find the 27-inch (69 cm) touchscreen display, complemented by a smaller detachable tablet to the side of the main chair, both connected to Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system. Each suite also features a complimentary minibar, snack basket, and numerous amenities, including a notepad, tote bag, pajamas, slippers, and more.

However, one of the defining feats of Emirates first class, remains the onboard Shower Spa, available exclusively on the A380. Located at the front of the upper deck, two private shower rooms are reserved exclusively for first class guests. Passengers can schedule their shower time during the flight and enjoy up to five minutes of running hot water while in cruise. Emirates also complements the onboard experience with dine-on-demand service, unlimited caviar, premium Champagne selections, and access to the airline’s famous onboard bar at the back of the aircraft.

Etihad: Not Just An Apartment, But a Residence

When designing their first class product, Etihad Airways took an approach similar to Singapore. Rather than focusing on visual extravagance or traditional enclosed suites, the Abu Dhabi-based airline prioritized space and exclusivity. As a result, Etihad introduced its spacious First Class Apartments, along with the ultra-exclusive Residence, a three-bedroom home in the sky and one of the most ambitious premium cabin concepts ever attempted.

The standard first class cabin onboard Etihad’s A380 features just nine First Class Apartments located on the forward upper deck. Unlike traditional enclosed suites, each Apartment functions more like a miniature studio room, similar to Singapore’s Suites. Each 39 square foot (3.62 square meter) apartment features a 30.3-inch (77 cm) wide brown leather armchair to enjoy during takeoff, landing, dining service, and to utilize the 24-inch (61 cm) inflight entertainment screen. Across from the armchair is the 80.5-inch (2.05 m) long folding bed. This setup allows travelers to relax, dine, and sleep without constantly converting the cabin between configurations. Additionally, each Apartment features fully closing privacy doors, a vanity area, a chilled minibar, and extensive storage space that help make Etihad First Class among the largest size-wise in commercial aviation.

While Etihad’s Apartments are impressive, even they are overshadowed by Etihad’s most famous innovation: The Residence. Occupying approximately 125 square feet (11.6 square meters) at the very front of the upper deck, The Residence is effectively a private three-room apartment in the sky, containing a separate living room with a sofa and dining table, a private bedroom with a double bed, and an ensuite bathroom complete with a shower. Aside from the incredible amount of space onboard, just shy of four times the size of Etihad’s Apartments, Residence guests also have access to a dedicated butler and luxury amenities. The Residence is now available as an upgrade option for those already booked into Etihad’s Apartments, with the Residence experience being as close to flying private as possible in commercial aviation.

From The Ground To The Skies: Lufthansa A380 First Class

The Lufthansa first class experience, especially on the A380, represents one of the best luxury products available from a European airline. The German airline’s Airbus A380 first class product focuses on refinement and personalized service. Visually, Lufthansa first does not look as opulent or luxurious as Emirates’ A380 or Singapore Airlines’ massive Suites. However, where Lufthansa lacks in hard product, the carrier makes up for it in its service and incredible ground service for passengers departing from Frankfurt.

The first class cabin onboard Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 contains eight spacious seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration on the upper deck. Instead of fully enclosed suites with sliding doors, Lufthansa opted for an open-concept design that creates a spacious and airy environment. Each seat converts into a fully flat 81-inch (2.06 m) bed with premium bedding and pillows to enjoy. Passengers can also utilize the 17-inch (43 cm) touch-screen entertainment display, luxury amenity kits, and ample personal storage, both at the side of the seat and underneath the ottoman. Once inflight, passengers can enjoy a full multi-course meal service with professionally prepared meals, all in the company of one of Lufthansa’s famous rubber ducks, exclusive to first class guests.

However, what truly sets Lufthansa apart from other first class experiences is its ground experience, particularly at Frankfurt Airport. The airline’s dedicated First Class Terminal has become regarded as one of the best check-in and lounge experiences in the world. First class passengers receive a private terminal area to enjoy check-in, expedited security screening, à la carte dining, and premium drinks. Once the aircraft is ready for boarding, guests are even provided with private car transfers directly to the aircraft. While many of Lufthansa’s A380 flights depart from Munich, which has an excellent First Class lounge, for those lucky enough to fly from Frankfurt, making time for the First Class Terminal experience is a must.

Qantas’ Terrific Offering From Down Under

After nearly six years in storage, all of Qantas’ A380s are back to flying, each sporting a refurbished, swanky first class cabin. The Qantas A380 first class cabin contains 14 suites, arranged in a 1-1-1 configuration on the lower deck. While each suite does not feature sliding privacy doors like many newer configurations, the curved shell design and staggered layout provides passengers with a strong sense of personal space and privacy.

As Qantas’ A380s operate some of the carrier’s longest flights, including from Sydney to destinations like Los Angeles and London, large leather armchairs, quality bedding, 18-inch (46 cm) entertainment screens, and generous storage areas make the seats comfortable for those ultra-long-haul flights. Qantas has also invested heavily in its inflight dining options, partnering with Australian chefs to create menus highlighting premium local ingredients and wines. For many passengers, the airline’s soft product remains among the very best in first class travel.

The airline’s first class lounges remain a major highlight of the Qantas first experience. Available in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, and Singapore, first class passengers can access the airline’s flagship First Lounges. These spaces offer restaurant-style dining, premium cocktail bars, shower suites, and expansive seating areas designed more like luxury hotels than airport lounges. In Sydney and Melbourne, passengers can even enjoy complimentary spa treatments before departure. Although the lack of WiFi onboard many of Qantas A380s prevents it from competing directly with newer suites from Singapore Airlines or Emirates, Qantas continues to excel where it matters most: comfort, hospitality, food, and the overall long-haul experience.
