HBO is wasting no time handing out a renewal for its big-scale adaptation of the ‘Harry Potter’ books. With the first season, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ due at Christmas, the company has announced that the second is now being written.

“A new era of Hogwarts begins.”

Air Date: December 25th, 2026

Starring: Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, Alastair Stout

In related news, Jon Brown (‘Succession’) who served as one of the writers on the first season, has been promoted to co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner, who oversaw those initial episodes.

What’s the story of the ‘Harry Potter’ TV series?

From the sounds of it, the show won’t venture too far from the books, just taking the expanded running time a TV series allows to adapt more from them.

Here’s the official logline: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past…”

Here’s HBO boss Casey Bloys on the reason for the swift renewal:

“For the kids, obviously, but also for viewers, trying to not have massive gaps between seasons. It is a big show, lots of special effects, obviously. Massive operation, but we’re going to do what we can.”
